What is Tesco/ASDA coupon policy?

Since finding this excellent site and getting hold of MOC's wherever I can I am now convinced that the store staff are watching my every move at the self scan tills!
Especially when I start the scanning and trying to get the coupon slot to recognise I have put a coupon in (blowing in it appears to be the solution)
But what is the official line? - is it as long as they sell the product or is it 10% of your shop, or something else.
One ASDA rottweiler said you have to buy the product and then its up to 10% (contradicting herself in the same breath).
Thanks

You could ask 'how long is a piece of string'.
Coupon acceptance will vary between stores, between assistants and between different days.
I rarely use self scan, I prefer to take my chances with a young male cashier, or young female cashier and I just hand over the coupons and ask them to try them for me.
Get to know your local store policy and remember 'good' cashiers and always have a bit of a chat with them while they put your shopping through. My local Tesco is currently taking 50%, bought or not, but every coupon on self scan requires authorisation so I always go through a till. I think most Asda are 10% bought or not, although I do have an email from their customer services which says no limit but I have not tried testing that yet. If the self scan at Asda is busy then it is easier to slip some extra through as they don't require an authorisation, not in my store anyway.

Our tesco is supposed to be 10% but certain cashiers take more than that. Some scan everything you give them. Others will not go above the 10%.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Coupon acceptance is a BONUS but not an automatic right, the cashiers do not and I don't think ever will "sing from the same hymn sheet"
I just hand the tesco cashiers my vouchers, if they take them brill, if they don't I keep them for next time.

In my Tesco you need to buy the product first then they'll accept the coupon (I always assumed you'd have to buy the product first anyway - I didn't realise some people could use manufacturers coupons without having bought the product????)0

Tesco: as others have said, suss out your local stores, usually smaller stores can be a bit anti-coupon and Extras might be more relaxed......in any case always pick a young lad, even if it means walking pointlessly up and down an aisle near your 'chosen one' until his queue is shorter!
Tesco official line is that they will 'accept one coupon' and 2 if you have actually bought the product (which suggests that it's one per PRODUCT otherwise....which would be great but many stores interpret it as one per TRANSACTION, sadly).
Asda: Well this is hit and miss too, although I believe it's at the Manager's discretion. One local Asda here accepts just one coupon per transaction if you've not bought the product....so I haven't graced them with my presence for a year!
But I have another Asda where they are much more chilled, they used to let you spend any amount in coupons, even at the Entertainment desk (e.g. I bought 2 Simpsons £18 boxset DVDs last year for a pile of cereal coupons and a fiver!). They check them all carefully though (only accept genuine manufacturers' originals) and quite right too really. But recently their Manager has decided to restrict coupons to 10% apparently so I haven't returned very often.
Personally I would rather take my chance on Tesco tills where you sometimes get loads accepted, including some internet ones, and you can also use their own H&B and Clothing Coupons from instore leaflets as well.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Make that most people (or most MSEers anyway)....you'd be surprised!
Try a young lad next time, hand some over with your clubcard and just ask 'can you scan any of my coupons please?'. I have even had success in Sainsburys with this line and a confident/friendly approach (although their official policy is to take none unless you've purchased the products).PRIVATE 'PCN'? It varies - seems totally dependent on the individual! In the last couple of weeks I've been told: '10%' ,'50%', 'we only accept the moc if you've bought the product', ' only 1 if you haven't bought the product', ' only 2 if you haven't bought the product' ,' only 3 if you haven't bought the product', 'only 5 if you haven't bought the product' 'only 1 of each type you've got if you haven't bought the product' , 'all of them if they are 20 or 30 p but none above 50p', 'if the till accepts it thats fine' - happily the case today when I used 17.25 off a £45 shop, and last week when I used £18.25 off an £18.60 shop!!0

Another line I heard a few times was one of each you have plus one extra. That was bizarre but saved me a few quid cos I made sure my duplicate one extra was for a fiver if I could!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!
