They shouldn't run a credit check if it is an upgrade, an extension of an already existing contract.

Given they have already done the check and approved you for that line.

I think the store person ma have been trying to open you a new contract, as the commission they get for a new connection in comparison with an upgrade is 5x maybe even 8x in certain periods.

Contact 3 customer service sales teams and ask for upgrade,it will be done without any credit checks,i am sure that bloke tried to add additional line on your name which was refused.

Sorry Derek, I wasn't suggesting you were supplying anything :p

It sounds like the electoral role question is the most likely bit here. Contact the council and they'll let you know what to do.

Leave it 2-3 months and apply for the contract again, as the credit agencies would have updated by then with your new electoral information. :T
You don't normally have to wait, unlike credit cards phone companies normally engage in conversation abotu this sort of thing (well they did with me anyway). If you ask why and explain your situation then they usually sort something out
  • If the line has only ever been a sim only then a further credit check is done due to there being a different credit requirement for sim only and handset contracts. Other reason for decline could include a bad payment history on that or the other lines.
