grease on railings.

hi all.
at a bus stop near where i live a local householder has smeared grease all over the railings to stop people from leaning on them. on monday my partner was waiting for a bus at the stop when she leaned on them and got this grease all down the back of her top:(

my question is, is the householder allowed to do this?

If it is their railings, I suppose yes. If it is not their railings, then no.

But you would need proof that it was the houseowner, but they could counter sue you for damage for trespass.

Dont think it was good thinking on the householders part, what with society today I can see the odd brick through their window when they ruin a chavs new Bench top
  • We put burglar paint on our side gate and fence as we were sick of people thinking they could climb over to take a short cut.
According to the police this is quite legal but we must put a warning sign up..
One climbed over in his school uniform.Bet his mother wasnt pleased when he got home.
  • If the fence belongs to the bloke and its on his land, he can do what he wants with it.

Smear grease under the edge of their car door handles, or if they don't have a car then their front door.

It'll make you feel better :p

If you use anti-vandal paint or grease on your boundary wall/fence/railings then you need to also put up signs to warn people.

OP, I would suggest sending the householder a recorded delivery letter with a bill for the cost of your partners top. Give them 14 days to pay. If they don't, send a notice before action. If they still don't cough-up, take them to Court.

Btw, a lady on a radio phone-in told the presenter she had put barbed wire around the top of her fence to stop the local scroats using her garden as a short-cut. The Police told her it was illegal and she could be prosecuted.
What she should have done was to remove the fence panels and then replace them with the barbed wire. This must be legal as my local farmer has erected barbed wire fencing around all his fields.

  • thanks for all your replies. just spoke to my partner and she is going to have a chat with the local plod to try and get them to have a word with the house holder.
i just cant understand that someone could be so petty. the bus stop is used by many locals and holiday makers at this time of year.not a very good advert for dawlish.

is the grease not to slow down the process of rusting
i cant imagine why people would want to lean on it
i even put a notice up
guess one of the locals took it off
never mind officer i will put another one up
    notice before action
well i did put a notice up
