Advice on which new boiler to go for

You are right about PV and ASHP installers jumping on the biomass bandwagon and the problem is they will install any product because they have no experience, they think because it says biomass it must be super.
Wood pellet boilers are a great choice for you they are over 25% cheaper than oil to run, most have been out longer than your average condensing boiler and they have a life double the length of a condensing boiler.
If you can afford to invest go for the wood pellet boiler, you dont need to fill it daily you can have a small tank 1m3 sat next to the boiler and on a 3 bed house may need filling once or twice a month in the winter.
You can probably guess that we install biomass but we also install heat pumps and solar and have been Oftec registered for oil for 10 years, there are reasons the oil tank rules have tightened up mainly fire regs and pollution.
Go for wood pellets dont go for the room heater style if you can help it as the boiler systems will give you more for your money.0 -

I've been discussing this in another post as well. I have found an external woodpellet boiler that Trianco make http://www.trianco.co.uk/products/greenflame-biomass-wood-pellet-boilers
Im just in the process of finding out how much it would cost to fit this onto my existing system; it looks like a good boiler and the fact it is manufactered in the UK, doesnt need a buffer tank and has a 5 year warranty on the heat exchanger gives me a good feeling.0 -
Ok so. Ive made a decision of sorts.
Ive ordered the kit to convert my range cooker back to SF. Its worth a punt as its only £200 and looks straightforward to do.
Ive also installed Carbon Monoxide alarms around the unit and i will be opening up a vent to the required size. It should be safe, its all down to whether it works for us or not; we wont find out unless we try it.
If it all goes Pete Tong Ill put one of these Tundra wood Pellet Boiler stoves in its place as ive managed to get the price down to a more reasonable £8k0 -
I've recently installed a ashp inc new high pressure cylinder and all controls inc new rads for under £8k, customer also received £850 grant as I'm mcs registered, lots taking the mick with renewable prices0
