Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 22nd August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly butif not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
We are off to Salisbury today for more sightseeing, we will set off just after 9 & after we've had a cooked breakfast, no point driving through the rush hour traffic.
We had our first social services visit yesterday, we await the outcome, we have proved we have 2 spare bedrooms, we will hear in a few weeks time. The visit lasted 2 & a half hours, we were told that the questions we would be asked would seem intrusive, but that we had to be checked thoroughly. I said that if my children were going in to care I'd have wanted anyone caring for them to have been checked out thoroughly. There are many hurdles ahead & we could fall at any time.
I have washing on the line, the fish have been fed & the baskets don't need watering as we had torrential rain yesterday. We will eat out today as part of our holiday treat so no packups to make today.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs Hester

Morning All,
Been awake since 4am, and up at 5 watching Hairy Bikers and Gardeners World which I recorded.
Just had poached egg on toast, only ate 997 calories yesterday, hopefully the diet is working!:rotfl: Haven't weighed myself, but clothes feel looser:T
Need to do the front garden today. the poppy's have finished, and I need to collect the seeds and pull them up.
Had a jacket potato anad beans for dinner last night, haven't had that for ages, and really enjoyed it!

Morning everyone
Hoping all those expecting exam results get what they want/need, and for those that don't get what they'd hoped for - don't panic there's always a way forward x
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Bright and sunny here this morning, bit of a nip in the air but forecast is for sunshine all day! DH up and off to work stupid early. Washing on line already.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket and beans. Boys went out with my parents yesterday and had tea out - fish and chips at the seaside, they got home just before 8pm, we'd already eaten by then. Not sure what we'll be having tonight need to organise that later.
Working just until lunchtime then on days off, will be endeavouring to get boys school shoes this afternoon, they will just need more shirts each then they'll be sorted. Mum and dad have 2 spare single beds that we're going to have for the boys, but firstly their rooms need de-pitting as at the moment they have cabin beds and they need to be taken to pieces to get them out of the rooms - so we have a fair amount of work ahead of us - but we're not away for several weekends now.
Have a good day, stay safe and well x

Morning :hello:
SMALL ONIONS
LARGE ONIONS
I have 2 strings of small and 3 strings of large. Not too impressed with the small onions - they're all supposed to be bigEvery red onion was small, I won't be buying that variety again.
I've fed and [STRIKE]trimmed[/STRIKE] hacked away at the tomato plants. We'll be living on tomatoes right through the winter at this rate
The leeks look really strong and healthy, the sweetcorn seems OK but I think we're going to end up with small cobs. Sprouts are doing well and I'm going to check the potatoes today.
We're overrun with eggs, most of my customers are on holiday so they're mounting up. I boiled some for snacks (then begged the other trus to PLEASE eat them), I've been eating a lot of scrambled egg lately and I'll use some today to make cakes.

Hi FS
We will hear in a few weeks time, no exact dates, but the entire process takes 8 to 10 months.

Good Morning All!
Sunny here and washing in machine. Woke up at around 3am and have only dozed since then. I have a huge list of things preying on my mind so am about to write them all down and plan how to tackle them in turn! Was looking at our outgoings yesterday and giving myself a shock as I added up the cost of hairdressing for a year and eyebrow waxing for a year.....Could lengthen intervals between hair appointments by a couple of weeks, but my eyesight not brilliant for plucking my brows!
DS' ex-partner rang yesterday to ask if she could bring her brother and his family who are on holiday from Germany up to see us today. We were really thrilled as we've always got on well with her family and it's nice to think they still want to be in touch with us despite the split. So, a bit of HW beckons before they all arrive! I thought ham and salads would be OK for lunch so boiled the ham yesterday and need to get the salads made shortly. Then we can relax and enjoy the visit!
HH - I like Salisbury very much. Lived near enough to visit as a child and went back a couple of years ago. Hope you enjoy your day there. Glad the SS visit went well.
Hilstep - hope the weightless continues to go well. A few friends who I haven't seen for a month or so have commented that I look to have lost weight - but DH disagrees! Huh! Tell him it's because he sees me all the time!
Oh well, best get a move on I think. Hope you all have a good day today.Resolution:

Morning everyone,
Hester Have a good day out.
Beemuzed Have fun with your visitors.
Tru I could do with some of those eggs. My children keep making pancakes.
nmlc my DS gets exam results tomorrow. I am so nervous.
I went to school yesterday to work on a summer school for the day. We are running a free summer school for pupils who are coming up to the school in september and for any reason are likely to have problems settling in. We had the Institute for Civil Engineers in and the children built a full sized bridge, it was amazing!
One mum came in at lunch time as her son had been crying when she left him and didn't want to stay. He was enjoying himself so much that he barely spoke to her and told her that she could go home!:D
Tea tonight is some curry that was delivered by our friends up the road who over catered for Eid at the weekend so no cooking for me.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning all
HH - finger's crossed SS realise you'll be great foster carers. It's something I want to do in the future. Enjoy your day out
Tru - very jealous of the onions! And tomatoes, and the eggs!
Moorhen - bridge building sounds ace! We do bridge building in work, over a giant river and normally the kids end up falling in and getting wet :rotfl:.
Pouring down here at the moment, showers is what we are meant to be having. No jogging today, need a rest day. I'm being taken out for lunch by my new friendonly to a pub, but it's the nice one by a lake. Before that I need to dye my hair, all of a sudden the greys are shining through .
OS wise - quick tidy, hoover, if I'm home tonight I'll make a curry as didn't feel like eating again last night.
Have a good day all

HH - salisbury is a beautiful place
Tru - know how you feel with the eggs, even the people i give ours to are getting fed up of them. once school is back proper they'll miss out to the teachers.
Moorhen - DD goes to high school next term and is ok but a little bit nervous, more places shoul;d do days like you had. If only to break the ice.
Did manage to clear another area of the back garden before the rain set in yesterday, so we are getting there. Con't do too much at once as the hayfever kicks in.
Not got much planned OSD wise today, will finish the assembly hall foor polishing (will take a good 4 hours). then start the process again in the PE hall. Oh well thats my week sorted LOL. no one at all in for the next few days, so radio on full and sing along without fear of frightening anyone with my velvety tones whilst singing along.
take care allNever put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..
