I sympathise but I can also see both sides of the story. You are right that if you are sick you are sick but human nature makes us not want to leave people in the lurch if at all possible.
I am off sick at the moment with pregnacy related problems. Only problem is, I am the finance person and I have been off slap bang over the end of the financial year. It is a school with only myself and the secretary as admin people- we have both only been there since september and so don't know each other's jobs hardly at all. This lady is doing a great job covering for me as best she can, but there is stuff she really can't do, and the head can't help either.
I said I would try and speak to them on the phone if she was stuck, but I have actually found it better to use email. That way I am not pressured into knowing the answer straight away, I can answer in my own time with a concise answer and no chit chat. Also, she may think twice about finding out the answer elsewhere first before trying me as a last resort.
Maybe that is a way forward for you?0 -
It sounds like constructive dismissal to me, if someone has a sicknote and a genuine illness the employer should not be calling them asking work related questions at all.
I hope you get well soon and find a better job with an employer who understands that people are not machines but if you treat them well they work harder for longer.0 -
Well my resignation has been sent and probably accepted. However, I got left a voicemail asking if I would be prepared "to come into the office for a day to hand over the duties"!!! I spoke to another member of staff who said the MD would like me to come in to show him all of the Sage system etc as he doesn't know how to use it.
All of this after I have resigned and whilst still signed off sick? This employee said to the manager, just get in a temp who has Sage knowledge they will be able to work out the system easily (this is because I had set up processes and documented everything). He doesn't want to get a temp as "they cost money"!!!

I have decided to resign with immediate effect. I can't cope with the commute and also I feel that I will be pushed into returning to work before I'm ready due to the size of the business.
Hopefully now my employer can find a replacement and I can recoup in suitable time.

Well done you. Concentrate on yourself and dont take on the worries of your ex boss. I have been there in the past and after 15 years I was surplus to requirements. Im certainly not bitter but it may me realise about putting myself first.

I left a job a few years ago through ill health and I wished I'd waited, but I was getting sick pay. Its too late anyway as you have resigned, but I would have been tempted to go to or phone the local citizens advice or benefits advice service. I think sometimes if you resign there is a waiting period before you get benefits, but you might be able to make out a case due to your ill health. It may well still be worth talking to citizens advice.0

Well I resigned over 2 weeks ago. I got one VMX saying that "when you are feeling better get in touch, we can come to some arrangement"!!!
That has been it!!!
No P45 as requested, no get well wishes, nothing at all!
I'm glad I'm out of it to be honest but hurt of the lack of concern with the hours and commitment I gave to him.0 -
It won't appease the hurt, but phone your local tax office and say that you've resigned but not yet had your P45, ask how long you should expect to wait for it. I believe they can chase for it: I know they do if you start a new job without one.
To be fair, ours would be done with the normal payroll run so if you were monthly paid it MIGHT be on its way.Signature removed for peace of mind0
