I'd like to join you! Like you, I can only save a small amount each month as I am still working on clearing my debts at the same time.
So I'd like to save €5000 too! For me, I would like to achieve a lifelong dream and buy myself a horse and a (second-hand) horsebox next summer.
I currently have just over €2000 in my credit union account (secured against loans, so it can't be touched) and I reckon if I could bring it up to €7000 I could buy a very nice horse and a decent second-hand horsebox.
I will update my signature later on when I check how much I have in my savings pot for starting out.
Thanks for the thread! :A
It will be very slow and steady here, but a bit of motivation will go a long way towards achieving this dream!!
Well done on becoming debt-free! :T
Thats great! I love horses as well.
I would recommend you pay your debts that you are paying interest off first and if the rest are interest free you can then save until it has to be paid off.
Good Luck, let me know how you get on0 -
We were out last night one our friends birthday and she didnt have a great turn out so we stayed till late last night. The good news is I had three drinks but they all add up:D
I just checked the damage £85 to last to the end of the month
Not bad but not great if I want to save more this month. The good news is that we have a Tesco delivery tomorrow so all of my lunch stuff is in that delivery. So I won't need to spend much on lunches
Now to figure out what else I have on.....0 -
Hi GRC!
Thanks for the advice!
I know I should get completely debt-free first but that is going to take me up to two more years (at the rate I am going, which is quite good so far! :j) so I think I am going to try to save a wee bit too.
More than likely I'll end up dipping into the savings to update my car (11 years old - but will drive it til it dies!) rather than live the dream, but at least I'll have an emergency fund there.....(and if emergencies stay at bay I'll get my horse!)
It sounds like you had a fun weekend and stayed on track too - well done!

Hi everyone, well not much to report. I am down to £45 as last night I got Pizza for OH, which saved him cooking last night. I still have £15 to come out for my Contact Lenses so I am really down to £30.
With less than two weeks till payday
I was doing some Christmas planning the other day. I know it's early but it's big expense. I think I will need £300 as my OH has a bigger family than I do. I may be able to make some jewellery for the girls and get it down to £250. I am up to £96 in Amazon credit so it should be ok.
How is everyone doing?0 -
Yesterday was a freebie day, we went to a shopping centre one we haven't been to before. We got free coffees (thanks to my Costa card) free Millies cookies (thanks to OH's O2 offers) he also got a free car kit (O2 voucher) and I got two CD's out of HMV (Birthday Gift voucher with change to spare). I was going to use my Boots card but I didn't have enough so I will use that for Xmas.
I think we ended up spending £5 each which is good and that was our bus fare and sweets for last nights movie :j
Hoping for a NSD today....:D0 -
Hi gothrockchic!
It sounds like you had a very sensible weekend! Hope the NSD went as planned. Have been finding the last week or two a bit tough. The initial enthusiasm is waning a little, and I'm feeling a bit hard done by! Still, I've saved my €50 this fortnight. And am just being very careful - find that food/groceries is the area that I can save a bit on, while still eating very well. Like you, I've found my thoughts turning towards Christmas (which is most uncharacteristic of me!) and thinking ahead with my budget. I won €30 unexpectedly this week so I think I will put that into my Christmas savings account, which currently has nothing in it! I think €250 would be a nice little lump sum to have for extra treats during the festive season, and I'm going to try and buy my presents bit by bit between now and the start of December so that for once I can enjoy the festive season!
Good luck with the rest of the week,

Hiya gothrockchic1,
great idea & challenge :T
I'm an ex DFW too & this thread is just what I need to keep me motivated.
I have my Escape Reality Fund which is my very own personal savings treasure chest which I aim to use to either buy a boat or randomly wander the world once I am free from full-time parenting.
My daughter is nearly 13 so I've got a few years yet to save & I'll probably need a lot more than £5,000 but that's a great first goal to aim for
The amount I can save will vary each month ( I've been on short hours at work for 6 months & daughter has recently taken up horse riding, which hasn't helped the finances ) essentials come first, but what I do save will be mine, all mine mwah ha ha :rotfl:.
Need to check sig but I think I'm currently on £1570.
ETA - £1570 ... and 60 p0 -

Welcome Lula Hula! I have followed a few posts of yours and am glad you got Debt Free :T
Thats sounds awesome, nice to have a dream to save for!
Mmm horse riding yes that is an expensive hobby!0 -
Nothing to report
NSD today :T With £25 left for the month :cool:0 -
Thanks for the friendly welcome
I've only recently started selling on ebay; I had a real fear of it for years - but it's so easy when using a phone & I plan to have another photo & listing session at the weekend.
Yep, the riding is 'scary money' at the moment as she's having one to one lessons ... but they operate a credit scheme whereby you pay an amount up front & get extra value from it eg pay £150 but get £158 worth of credit ... so eventually get a free lesson
NSD here too0
