13 month old kindle develops a fault

I Bought a kindle in June 2011and it was replaced in July 2011 after I dropped it.
The replacement kindle developed a fault this week, no fault on my part this time, the screen just stopped working.
I've contacted Amazon and they're not interested. They say the warranty ends after 12 months and that's the end of it.
Do I have any recourse at all? surely it's not reasonable that a piece of electronic equipment fails after 13 months?

Sale Of Goods Act.
They may insist on you getting an independent engineer's report that confirms the fault was inherent before they do anything, but if such a report finds an inherent fault then they MUST offer a remedy (and refund reasonable costs for the report). Such a remedy may be repair, replace or refund.
The recent replacement still confers the same SOGA rights as the original purchase.0 -

This may not be any help but have you tried re booting. Hold the on off switch inthe on position for about 30 seconds and it may come back to life. You have to hold it for at least that long though. Mine has died a couple of times and this has worked for me.0 -
Also worth ringing Amazon again, they can be very good with Kindle guarantees. You may find a different operator may offer a better remedy.0

You are right. Sometimes i will call a company a few times in order to get someone who can really help with a problem. It is amazing how the level of knowledge and helpfulness can vary from person to person. If you are not satisfied first time, keep calling till you get someone decent to help.0 -
Quick update, following an online chat, 2 emails and a phonecall to amazon I've drawn a complete blank.
They are not interested in any way in helping and have offered me a paltry 20% discount on a new kindle, which would no dobt break in 366 days or so, which I've declined.
Amazon customer services are appalling and I'd suggest if you're looking for an ereader you should look elsewhere0 -
odd. I've only ever had really excellent service from them on the kindles we have...0
