neighbour's untaxed van - moral dilemma

I had the same problem with 3 vans in our road i reported it to the DVLA and the local council and guess what nothing done about because they wasnt registered with the DVLA at the address in questio. Soon got it sorted by the community police as the vans were being used for illegal scrap collections.0

Hi again: done it!
Found a site that told me the make of the van. Doesn't look like it's insured and then I checked the tax/sorn declaration to find no tax and no sorn. The power of the internet, eh? (and the support of others).
The council look after the road in that they trim the plants (now and then), sent the gritters in the snow and paint 'SLOW' on it. Nothing else has needed doing. I do have a sneaky suspicion that those of you saying this isn't a public highway are therefore correct, but I hope I've done the right thing and he at least declares SORN if that's appropriate.
Thanks again everyone. Hopefully there will be something to update in a few weeks.0 -
Well if the DVLA think it might be a private road, they will ask the council, and the council seem to think it's a public road, so you're probably ok.
I guess the people who did have the original "discussion" with the neighbours will likely see retaliatory attacks now, once the van has been removed. You may want to switch to a car insurer that doesn't remove no-claims for vandalism.0 -
Sounds to me like the road was private then over time has been adopted by the council seeing as they are now gritting and cutting vegitation.
OP you have done the right thing in reporting it :TYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
White van man is being incredibly self centred, parking a single vehicle in two visitor bays. He's not a visitor and it should be in one bay, not two.
I would report him without a shadow of doubt. Even if the bay is classed as off the road and he does'nt need tax/insurance/MOT he should be reported for blocking the bay...
Almost as bad as people who park their cars in turning areas so you go into a cul-de-sac and you can't turn round0 -

See post 28, there are no marked bays or allocated spaces, so it is just a free for all.
Doesn't alter the fact that his vehicle is untaxed and without SORN. Hope that it gets towed away, as it is a simple thing to do and does not costs anything.0 -

:T Don't forget to come back here and let us know what (if anything) happened as a result.0 -

So very true, why should me and you follow rules if others can get away with it?!
This reminds me of the time I parked outside someone's house on a small street of terraced houses, being the only parking space that's exactly what I was going to do. Later on when I return to my car there's a person stood there pointing at their window, showing me a sign that read "Do not park outside my house". I ignored them being there and simply said "is that a valid tax disc?". His answer was yes.
End of story

I would report him. I wouldn't say anything to neighbour or he will guess you reported him."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
