Many years ago I spent an afternoon of my life crawling round the very public flower beds of our public park trying to catch a feral kitten that my mother had spotted and set her heart on. I was equipped with a large tin of tuna fish, our picnic basket and a pair of oven gloves.

Well, I did get him in the end, after providing several hours of amusement for the entire town. He was four months old and a grey tabby with white socks and he hated people. Except my mum and, to a lesser extent, me. It took a lot of time and patience because he was quite old to be domesticated but we got there, he absolutely adored my mum and slept on her bed every night till he died at the ripe old age of 14.

So my advice is to get a couple of sturdy cardboard boxes, some tuna and have a go at catching them yourself. If they're that hungry they'll come for food. What will you do with them after? Keep them? A big dog cage is good for keeping kittens in, if you can borrow one. Talk to them as much as possible, especially when feeding them, and give them a few days before adding the stress of a vet visit to their lives. Handle them as much as they'll allow too, they are very young and there's plenty of chance they'll adapt.
    Val.

Can't see the kittens at all now. There have been some lads in the road with staffies - hope they haven't got to the kittens

Thanks again Froglet but the kittens still are not back. I did look at the links - thanks for those - don't want to ring anyone else though till I make sure the kittens haven't gone for good.
  • You take any unwanted animal to the RSPCA and they will put it to sleep.I read an article in the Sunday Mirror a couple of years ago about a woman who worked there. She said they just wanted peoples money from wills etc and put everything that moved to sleep. She was disgusted and quit the job.
If anybody wants to donate to an animal charity I would urge them to support a local charity that rehomes all animals and doesnt Put them to sleep. Or send the money in food or vets vouchers or something.

The USPCA put to sleep a cat that was handed in as a stray cat a couple days before, the day after they killed the cat,the owner phoned up to see if it had been handed in.

How do they rehome them then?

Probably the same way as I have rehomes several cats over the years - by CARING about animal and making sure all best is done for the poor thing.

Massive COMPANIES like RSPCA - all they care about is profit and public image, plastering public transport with "cute" photos and portraying themselves as caring - yeah right.

You misunderstand - my question is how do the RSPCA rehome animals if they kill them all as that poster stated?

The RSPCA is not a company, it is a charitable organisation comprising of thousands upon thousands of components. I can understand why some people take individual cases and become angry, but I don't understand how some can tarnish an entire organisation in the way they do.

I agree with Spike. I recently got a 2 out of 3 kittens and mum cat who was semi feral, spayed her and rehomed the two who were young enough to adapt quickly. The third one hasn't been coaught but mum was released back to it after being spayed.
