Been on the phone most of this morning trying to get someone to come out and help the kittens but nobody wants to know.

How cruel is that? Poor little creatures.

Ask them if you can borrow a couple of traps then, what area do you live in?

Hi again.I have pm'd the person and shall have to wait now until he goes on to the forum and replies to me.I am sure he will be able to think of something, he has taken on ferals for many years.

Meanwhile have you tried posting on all the cat forums for ideas?

I thought Cats Protection loaned traps, then neutered and released them back to where they had originated from if they're very wild.

Maybe put a post on freecycle or in a freecycle cafe, any other local internet groups, I'm sure someone will be able to assist. Possibly even a local vet, if you have any that can see beyond £ signs.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Thanks Froglet but if he lives in Essex he's a long way from my area...he may have some ideas though.

I haven't posted on cat forums...I'm more of a doggy person, so don't know of any cat forums.

Usually the best ideas come form this forum.

Just going to have another go at catching them now.

How about a large fishing net,(pond net,not keep net).Or putting their food inside the shed, and a comfy box.Leave the door slightly ajar, and a trail of food well inside. Then after a few nights , hide behind shed and slam door shut.

Mind you ,of course you then have to somehow get inside without them getting out again and then catch them.

Maybe not such a good idea after all!!

Thanks Froglet. They are behind a shed so very difficult to get to the actual area they are in.

Any attempt to approach them panics them and they shoot away, up a tree, through other gardens, out onto a busy road...!

Going out to them again now as I couldn't see them at all a moment ago.

Right, this is what my contact has said.He is fine with me posting his reply here.Hope it helps. You are doing a fantastic job, thank you so much for caring.

Several things - there are several rescues in the Merseyside who seem willing to tackle ferals.

The poster could also go on to Catchat and post the problem in the forums - I am sure there are users in the Merseyside area who may be able to help.

It's not quite clear to me whether they have asked the CPL local branches if they could loan a cat trap but I would imagine the rescue centres listed and stating that they can help with ferals will have one.

You usually need something really "nice" to tempt ferals and you can actually use a cat basket to "trap" them if you are agile enough. I have used cooked roast chicken with some success.

If you want to post this on the forum that is absolutely fine by me.

Like all big cities there will be feral colonies and I very much hope that one of the rescues listed will come to her aid.

My usual and emphatic caveat: do not involve the RSPCA in this - they have no policy for ferals nationally and mostly put them down if any happen to come their way.

Feral kittens can easily be domesticated and even in the unlikely event of that failing most rescues - and the CPL - have long standing arrangements with local farmers who will willingly take them and feed them to help deal with their own vermin problems.
