Social housing on new estate - where do we stand!

We recently purchased a new house and one of the things that swayed us to choose the house we did is that the developer told us that there was no social housing nearby.
After being in for a few months it seems that there is a row of houses (about 5 or 6) that may be social housing on the next street.
As yet there have been no problems but having had problems with noise chavy neighbours in the past we are bit concerned.
I know how we need to deal with any problems if they arise but wondered where we stand with the developers.
When we were looking at buying we specificly asked about social housing and where it was on their plans and they told us there wasn't any .... it seems they lied.... if we do start to get any problems is there anything we can do?
I have heard stories of people taking developers to court?
Any advice wouldbe apreciated.
Thanks

It has been fairly standard for a few years for there to be a requirement to provide affordable housing on any new estate of over 15 dwellings. If that affordable housing is then sold to a housing association then I suppose you could call it social housing but it was not built as that. So they were correct, there were no plans for social housing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

What makes you think they are social?
Most developments do have social homes where housing association landlords buy properties off the developer.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I'm buying a new build and was shown plans of where the affordable housing is located (some shared equity, some housing association rented). The details about the affordable housing were also clearly stated in the planning information I have received from my solicitor. He sent me a copy of the original planning application (and this can be accessed for free by anyone through the local council's website). Unless you got anything in writing about there being no social housing then you probably won't be able to get anywhere with the developer on this one.0

Also my friend is buying on a new build estate that "has no social housing". It really does not! But this is because he is buying from a builder who bought land from another building company. The estates are side by side, and inter-linked really. The first builder is fulfilling the obligation to build affordable/social housing. This means the second builder can say that there is no social housing on his estate. But there is... just built by another builder!0

Anyone can purchase a house in any street and rent it to their local housing association/council. Your next door neighbour could do it. What would you do then - sue them? Get over yourself.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

How simply ghastly for you having all those common people so close.
Why don't you go & leave the country so there's only those prepared to get on with others here...0 -
Unfortunately my advice is to do your own research and not just rely on what people tell you. Social housing wouldn't worry me, as long as I was not right next door. You mention they may be on the next street, so pretty far away then by the sounds of it.0
