Doh! I mucked that one up wasn't concentrating when I typed (rookie mistake) I meant I don't have any extra locks just the yale pull the door closed and that's it.
My garden is a little enclosed but again tbh the dogs would probably scare the bejesus out of anyone willing to climb 3 fences lol.
Though considering my two as long as they got belly rubs they would let you take what you wanted lolFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
A Yale is the type that locks as you close it though isn't it?
You need a key to open from the outside, but just turn a knob to open from the inside?
I have my french doors open a lot in the warm weather, but my garden is enclosed, so it feels ok.
I think so. It was at my parents house, and we would only lock the additional locks at night, or when I was younger, if I was home alone.
But my door now, is like a bedroom door with a key lock. We have to lock it, otherwise anyone could just wander in.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I hate when it gets near Halloween or Christmas and you get loads of kids knocking on the door demanding "Trick or Treat" or "carol singing". There were a bunch of youths who tried it on our student house, about a month before Christmas thinking they were going to get money, no such luck. Unfortunately they took offence to this and so the next time when we ignored them they decided to key my car.
When we were little and we got trick or treaters my parents used to turn all the lights off and make us be quiet so they could ignore them!0 -

I love it when the kids come round guising. I always buy a big tub of sweets and they enjoy doing their wee "turn" to get a handful of goodies. Same goes for the carol singers, we always give them a few quid as they are raising money for the school/trips for the kids and they look so sweet (and usually pretty cold )0 -

Sure, I have no problem if they're genuine. But unfortunately in my experience they're just opportunistic teenagers who have made no effort to produce costumes, learn the words to their carols! (PS. I'm not a Scrooge)

I can't beliwve the number of people here that don't answer the door.
I would always answer mine (although don't get many visitors), maybe if it was after 10pm I would check who it was first.
I would generally be able to see their car before opening the door anyway.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
I'm a 2nd floor flat with an entry phone. I do get unexpected visitors buzzing to come ine - most the time its either the wrong house
or Jehovas Witnesses and then I do politely tell them I can't let them in. I won't buzz anyone in whose trying to reach another flat either.
If someone rings the door bell I will answer it as 9 times out of 10 its neighbour (as they are already in the building).
If I had a house and could see I would look out the window first before opening the door - if I was home on my own and I didn't recognise them and it wasn't a delivery van I wouldn't answer.0 -
I used to answer the door, but not now. Im on my own a lot of the time with two children, and the last person i answered the door to, was from a well known childrens charity.
She wanted me to set up a direct debit for her charity who were raising money for fresh water in third world countries. She then launched into a speil when she spotted my 3 and 5 yr old having their dinner, and was asking me how i would feel if they had no fresh water and contracted diseases from dirty water. Nothing like someone giving you a guilt trip on your own doorstep!!!0 -
It will probably make half the people here faint, but I hardly ever lock my back door when I go out in the daytime, in fact, I hardly ever even close it, or the ground floor windows into the back garden.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I never answer the door at all to anyone, but I`ve heard that the day before the £1 million premium bond announcement is made, a dark haired lady in her late forties calls to say you have won it.
In that case I will make an exception.0
