Answering a knock at the door

Wow - I wouldn't dream of not answering the door, whatever time of the day or night.

It could be an emergency, someone needing help, a meter reader, a delivery, a friend just passing or anything really. To me it's as strange as someone not answering the phone.

Absolutely agree and find it hard to believe their are so many antisocial, paranoid people around! What if it is someone needing help?

    Open house for me, always!

I always answer the door but then I have a 40kg husky stood right next to me & another 30kg one behind him. He is a very nosey boy & she is just as bad:rotfl:

Jehova's are scared of my two black cats Hades & Lucy-fur so they don't knock any more

My friends were in their house (upstairs) when thieves let themselves in through the unlocked front door and grabbed anything of value that they could run with. They weren’t in the house long, thankfully, and my friend who jumped out of the bath and threw on his bathrobe didn’t catch them. Could have been a lot worse than a relatively small insurance claim.

I don't lock the door in daytime when I'm home, but I will lock it if I'm home alone and going upstairs for a bath or to tidy the bedrooms etc. I wouldn't necessarily hear anyone knocking on my door from upstairs so I don't want folk just wandering in.

why on earth would I need to lock the door when I'm awake and in the house?

There was a few burglaries near my mum's over the past year where thieves were trying a front door, and if it was unlocked they would just grab things from the hallway (handbags are often left here) and make of with it  So Police advice was to lock the door when inside.

I agree - my neighbours were burgled while they were awake and in the house - they just happened to come down the stairs to see a guy blatantly walking out the door with the TV set!!
  • Always have the door locked, not paranoid, just something that was always instilled in me, same as with my car doors.

We're on the 2nd floor, and have an intercom, so I usually just answer that. But....if we're not expecting a parcel, or food delivery, then I do tend to ignore as it'll either be a salesperson of some sort, or one of the kids playing with the buzzers.

Oh yeah, we always lock the door, and leave the key in from our side in case there's ever a fire - we don't want to be fumbling around for keys in that situation.

Of course not, if you never answer the door! :)

I am wondering if some of you live in quite high crime areas?

I always answer the door but if I don't get to it in time the caller will just open the door and shout a hello! Same with the postie, he just opens the door and sticks the post on the kitchen table (no letterbox).

Car also sits outside with keys in it in case we lose them and we are in a hurry to go out :rotfl:

I'm wondering where you live in order to do all of those things!

A car left unlocked, with the keys in, in any of the areas I've ever lived in (and they aren't that high crime areas) would be stolen within a week.

Do you live in a remote location? Countryside perhaps?
