Hello All
I am buying my first home and, because we are in a furnished flat, we have no furniture whatsoever!
I am therefore looking for someone to recommend (or warn me off) stores that sell furniture. I am not purely looking to save money - our budget is good and we want quality - but it needs to be good value!
I am looking to buy:
Thanks all.

I am looking to buy:
- Three beds (2x double, 1x king) and memory foam mattresses
- One set of bedside tables and one single bedside table
- A small wardrobe
- A corner sofa
- Dining room sofa and chairs
- Something to put the TV on!
Thanks all.

When I last bought a bed, I found the little independant shops to be far cheaper than the main chains. 4 years on, it's not a decision I regret, I'm still totally happy with what I bought.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Thanks. Did you buy any particular brand of bed?0

Not knowing where you are, John Lewis Outlet at Swindon has an excellent and very large store with prices from 50-70% off. Mostly returns, exchanges, mis orders and some damaged (slightly) ex display stock.0

Nope, I don't do brands, just what felt right to me. Spent about £150-170 and got a double divan with 2 drawers deliverred, and the old one taken away.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

If you want the furniture as a starter then you can't go wrong with Ikea (at least for some of the stuff)
We bought our bed (ex mattress) from here, his beds are from Indonesia and very well put together. Something slightly quirky though the slats are individually numbered as no two are the same (which I must say I quite liked).
Matresses are nightmare to buy we ended up going to !!!!!! beds (the guy who ran it was booted from MSE you do your own research but I liked him when I spoke to him) and I must say the mattress is very good. We got a La Romantica Madrid mainly because it is double sided most are cheap and single sided so I am hoping this one will see me out.
Try and avoid the sheds their pricing is designed to confuse and the true value is usually around the price when they sell at supposed 70% off (But to me even that is debatable).
Take your time though and find the stuff that has some quality to it.0 -
I was in a sinilar situation myself not long ago.
They stock brands (kaydian, limelight, Julian Bowen, all the big matts names) and although it isn't advertised they will price match where they can, just give them a call.
So you don't have to worry about quality as you can read reviews of the specific brands and even the specific items elsewhere. And then get the best price by matching! Although they are often the cheapest with some products.
They trade on eBay (search for member "furniturechoiceuk") so you can read independent feedback. And they have reviews on trustpilot too.
I personally have one of their sofas and one of their divans.
Also, my mum recently got a Sealy mattress from Bensons and she loves it. I've tried theirs and also Highgate mattresses and they seem very good. The mattress specialist where I work always recommends Millbrook though and I spoke to someone today coincidentally enough who used to work for Dura but said he has a Millbrook mattress because he prefers the way they're made. Take from that what you will!
I also have a load of ikea stuff. You really do get what you pay for though with ikea. I have a cheap chest of drawers from them that is starting to give after 2 years but I have an expensive wardrobe from them and its still great after about 8 years now!
I don't know if there is a Home Sense near you but it's FANTASTIC for things like pretty boxes to store things in. Seriously, their stuff is gorgeous!Hi. One of my friends hired a large van took a friend and went to IKEA.
I have seen though that John Lewis offers a service to landlords for buying stuff to kit houses but couldn't find a link.
Found this though which shows furniture to buy as a package

I'm not sure why you are restarting an old thread long after the OP will have bought their furniture.
If they are still looking, unlikely I know, then BedStar.co.uk and OakFurnitureLand (in spite of the unpleasant Phil Spencer). Ikea are very good value.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Oh, I didn't realise! It was linked in another thread. I don't remember which one now. I didn't even look at the date!Hi.
