Another with a special needs child for whom the iPad is a very useful tool. Just because you and your family have or see no need for a child to have one, doesn't mean it applies to everyone.
Live and let live and all that :)

OP - we switched off in app purchases, saves worrying :)

Why are you furious? You son is really smart. You can tell your little one not to do so next time but don't get furious with him. Talk something about money and let him know if he buys anything too expensive which you can not afford what the troulbe could be. Your son is such a clever boy that he will understand. Next time if you want to treat him let he chose his treat through online shopping and process the payment.

my son ran up a bit of a bill with sky by playing games on the red button (advertised in every programme ) There was no password to enter however and he didnt realise that by just clicking onto the game he was paying each time, so he was seeing what each one did before deciding to play them.

I didnt punish him or contact Sky as i think its an important lesson to learn for us all, I didnt take the time to check they were free and he didnt bother to read the pop-up confirming payment.

In the case of the OP however I dont think the son is clever to knowingly bypass the authorisation of the parent by entering the password himself, I'd call that stealing - no different to helping himself to my purse. I would be coming down heavily on him im afraid OP, not looking for someone else to blame.
actually you have to enter the last 4 digits of your viewing card to access pay per use games

That surprises me tbh. I know their customer service is great from personal experience but I never imagined they'd refund it. I was thinking too that although they sell it via the app store they didn't make the app personally so have no control over in-app charges. Considering that it is great they are willing to refund you.

But the i suppose they can afford it haha ;)

Apple retain full control of all purchases made via their store.

actually you are wrong, I have just gone onto the game and there are only warnings (which my children couldnt read) that a fee will be paid but you can just press select through them and it charges either a one off or a game pass fee.

  • Ipads are certainly more common in schools now and their are devices that make them work with the interactive whiteboards too! We'll be seeing many more of them in schools this year I think. I know we've trialed half a dozen with different teachers this year and found them to be very useful in the classroom.
