I think I agree, but again would check about the address situation before OP incriminates themselves. eBay definitely do have a policy about contact details being correct and having the wrong contact info can get a buyer or seller warned or suspended until it is put right.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Couple of points - my contact details are now up to date (too late I know) and the address on Paypal was correct in the first place.
At the moment I am trying to get in touch with whoever the TV was delivered to. I am reluctant to make a speculative trip given the distance when they might not even be anyone home.
I am also trying to at least get the seller to admit that I opted for collect. Unfortunately I can't put screenshots on Ebay messages to prove my point and there only communication to date has denied that collection was selected.0 -
OPmight I suggest before you do anything other than continue to talk with the seller that you consider what might have happened if seller has been on here and asked the question?
seller- I sell TVs and have just had someone buy one that has not used their account for a few years and who has not contacted me previously about collection but has paid by paypal minus the courier fee- what should I do?
The chances are many people would be seriously considering the possibility of a scam here, it shows all the marks of one. Suggestions would probably range from 'refund the payment and ask for cash' or ' take a hit on the courier cost and post it so you have tracking'
Now imagine you go to paypal/ebay and ask for a refund, coupled with the issues above you then add 'and my address was wrong'- and I think they will find any way they can to back the seller.
I think you need to be concentrating on getting the TV back from the people it was collected from.
Alternatively, and as someone who sells a lot of the same item- the seller didn't notice you hadn't paid postage. I've missed postage discrepencies before and a few months back we had a thread suggesting people check the postage paid (as many big sellers don't ) to make sure buyer hasn't knocked off a bit. Again though if you start a claim I think any sensible seller would harrass ebay about this being a scam, and potentially win the case.
I am not for one moment suggetsing you are a scammer, but you must consider how this looks when you plan how to get your TV or your money back.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. .
That's interesting (possibly not for you unfortunately but for me). I was always of the opinion that sellers had to send to the paypal address to be covered against an INR. I have been corrected by those who are far more knowledgeable than me to say that both addresses are now automatically the same, so it doesn't matter what addres we use as it will be the same.
It obviously wasn't in your case, so either something odd has happened or we should continue to use the paypal address to be covered.
In your case though, if the paypal address was your current address then you simply need to start an INR in paypal pointing out that they have not sent it there- if they imput their tracking make sure you continue to harrass paypal to see the actual delivery address- as that will give you an automatic paypal win.
You need to do this as a paypal claim though and not let the sytem divert you back to an ebay claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Would a scammer go to the trouble of actually attempting to collect the item? I even made contact beforehand to find out where we needed to go. I have message trail form within an hour of the auction ending to prove this and their response.
The only reason we found it had been delivered was because when my missus turned up to collect the TV it wasn't there. No despatch notification from Ebay even now. Had there been one I might have been able to contact them before it got delivered to the wrong address.
I can see that i should have kept my Ebay details up to date and was aware they weren't, but given nothing was supposed to be shipped I didn't up date it. Stupid mistake. stupid not to pay on collection as well.
But I still don't see why I am at fault here. I didn't ask for it to be delivered and deliberately chose the option to collect. I attempted to collect and didn't get my TV. To add insult to injury, the seller claims to have checked the transaction and is telling me I didn't select collect at all. They are either lying or don't know where to look on Ebay.0 -

I think you are getting sidetracked. You either need to go and get the TV from the address or continue dialogue with the seller. It's not important if you think they are lying or not, it's not going to get your money back or produce the tv. It's irrelevant at this moment in time who is at fault. You either want to safeguard your money or not.
As Soolin has said, if the Paypal address was correct, then you can file an INR. If it wasn't then I cannot see you will win other than by using your credit/debit card company via a chargeback (if they will entertain it).0 -
wildsurf, read my post number 15. If your paypal address is where you are living now you will win an INR.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I think it is more important to get your TV back as soon as possible.
Try sending a letter to your old address and give them your phone number and email and see if they will contact you?0 -

Firstly, I am in dialogue with the seller, or i was, last message from them said they delivered and after checking the ebay transaction that was the option selected. I have replied to this, but have not heard back.
Secondly, we are also trying to contact the people the tv was delivered to. A friend of ours has been to their house, no one answered, but put a note through their door explaining the situation with out telephone number on. We have also managed to get their telephone number from Directory Enquires and have tried calling with no answer.
I will give the seller a chance to reply and also continue trying to contact the recipient of the TV before doing anything else. As a last resort I will raise disputes with Ebay/Paypal. And as a final resort, I will go down the criminal route has someone has signed for and has good that don't belong to them.
The purpose of this thread was to gauge what options I might have if I can't resolve with the seller or the recipient of the TV.
On the paypal front, I have tried clicking on view paypal transaction from Ebay and I get a message that the transaction ID is invalid. What does this mean? I may have used paypal as a guest, I will check when i have access to my work Email on Monday. Assuming I didn't use a registered paypal account, does this impact whether I can pursue a dispute through paypal?0 -

Now done via a friend calling round and pushing a note through the door (no one was home). We also have their phone number from directory enquiries, but no one answering.
I feel a bit like a stalker!0
