Is it not odd that it is the forum where some information is available?
  • There's a lot of strange, almost conspiracy-theory-like distrust in this thread.

I can confirm that Lenovo, one of the world's largest PC manufacturers, who also happen to make the best laptops money can buy, do indeed make and sell mobile phones to the Chinese market.

They mention their Chinese smart phones on their main US 'about Lenovo' page (I can't post links, google it).

Most of their phones are based (like many 'shanzai' phones) on MediaTek chipsets from Taiwan, which are very good, and extremely cheap.

I bought an A789 from a seller on aliexpress.com a couple of weeks ago, it only cost £85 including delivery by China Post, and that was after the bank ripped me off with their currency rates and charges.

I'm very happy with it. The build quality is pretty good (not quite as good as a ThinkPad, but good enough for a mid-range phone). The included accessories were rubbish, so I just threw them away and used my own charger and headphones.

It came with the standard crippled Chinese ROM with no Google Play store, but flashing a new one is pretty simple. There are currently two good options that I have found on xda-developers, just search for 'a789' on there

I've been recommending this phone to all of my family and friends, at this price it's a no-brainer.
