Of course it's extortionate (especially when the easy alternative is to pay nothing). You're mistaking PPCs for some kind of reasonable, fair business. If you were unlucky enough to get mugged, do you think the mugger would ask for just a tenner, or take everything you have? This is no different.

Indeed, but why do you think that I'm mistaking them for being reasonable and fair? I actually considered putting a line in advising that people should try not to use private car parks and I would also mention that I would definitely avoid someone not in the BPA at all costs :p

How did they pay? Cheque? When was this? If recent then cancel the cheque NOW. Dont waste any time.

To answer your question, they paid by direct debit :( Anyway, I know there is nothing they can do but should I advise them to do anything else like cancel the direct debit or would that not be a problem?

Yes, if this payment can be canceled, do so now.

However, if it cannot; would it still be worth just cancelling the direct debit to stop the company taking money?

    No, I didn't

So someone set up a direct debit mandate to pay a parking charge?

Wont be the last payment they take if they did!

Are you sure it's not a standing order or in other words a direct transfer like bacs ? Don't think a direct debit would be setup for 1 payment these are normally for recurring payments, if that has been setup they need to cancel it immediately. They can kiss goodbye to money paid though unless they go the small claims route
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

And also, would writing a letter of complaint to both WCP management and parking eye work?
