I hate loathe and despise Christmas shopping when it's busy so I always aim to have everything bought by the end of October - if anything I'm late getting started this year (I buy a few little bits at a time)! Then I can go into anti-tinsel lockdown mode for November and most of December.

I also have a run of birthdays in Nov/Dec so I tend to buy everything for birthdays + Christmas in one drip drip drip session from about July onwards.

I haven't started christmas shopping yet. The kids don't know what they want yet, so will have to wait.!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Like others, we have family abroad. It has also had to be discussed as my parents, who usually come to us, have separated and didn't much relish the idea of christmas together.

Dsil is foing to be working in europe this year for the first time in a few years and we are considering inviting her and her fiance too. But we are aware that she might want to see her das, or her fiance might want to spend it with his parents also in UK, so they might want to come for Boxing day or something.
  • only in terms of what excuse to come up with to avoid going to the in-laws lol! (any suggestions, please throw them my way!).

Last year was our first Christmas together on our own (had lived with parents before), and we wanted to spend in together on our own. It didn't stop MIL phoning the week before to check if we hadn't changed our minds, then phoning on the 21st to invite us to hers for her birthday dinner, on Christmas Eve, 2 hours away! In the end, it got changed to a lunch, so we went but meant we didn't get home til later on Xmas Eve.

I'm another one who doesn't understand the need for a huge big family get-to-gether. Perhaps I'll understand a bit more when we have kids and have grandparents wanting to see them, but it was never something we did as a family when I was growing up.

(oh, and have done nothing present wise. I normally start after my birthday in October).

With three children an over 20 people to buy for of course I have started thinking about Christmas :j

I'm one of those organised people who buys through the year, checks it off on a list and saves loads of money. My family laughs at me but I don't care. :D

I started hovering round the grabbit board in May, and have bought loads in various sales ( eg Dr Who lego set: £50 reduced to £12.50, bought for nephew)
I don't have too much left to buy, mainly stuff for DS2 who is the hardest out of my lot to buy for, and also perishables which I can't buy until December.

I do it to spread the cost mainly, so it's all paid in advance, I would hate to be skint in January.

I have bought 3DS XL's for my boys and a few 3D games and some books.

On the 6th Sept will be booking our Christmas Eve breakfast wth Father Chris!tmas before going off to the local Panto in the afternoon, all suprises:j but not a clue or even thought about anything or anyone else yet, in fact I still have 2 more payments to make on my Love 2 Shop vouchers, then I can really start!

  • I thought I was the only one who started thinking about Christmas this early! I bought wrapping paper and gift bags in the January sales and I sometimes buy bits and pieces in the summer sales too. I hate crowds so I usually try to be finished by the end of October.

OH is a vicar so you can imagine how busy he is in the lead up to Christmas! I end up doing all the shopping, buying and wrapping all the presents and writing all the cards so I prefer to plan well in advance.
  • I've been thinking about christmas but only thinking about saving money to help with christmas costs.

    or is it just me?

im thinking and looking but not bought anything yet.

Thinking about it. I only have a few people to buy for (mam dad and sis) and since I've been getting crafty I'm considering hand made gifts this year. Beats the usual of dvds/socks/gadgets etc. Got some ideas up my sleeves anyway so we'll see :)
  • I've got a few bits for my nephews, but one has a birthday between now and them so unless he comes up with anything he wants in particular they can go towards that. Did hampers last year for the rest of the family so undecided what to do this time as may be a bit repetitive again (did have lots of fun hunting bargains for them though!)
