Replacement birth certificates - urgent please

I need a replacement birth certificate as a matter of urgency - preferably in my hand tomorrow.

Online order services suggest 2 days would be the quickest possible. Is it possible to get a copy by walking into my nearest registry office tomorrow? it would not be the registry office nearest to where I was born although if push came to shove, I could probably make the journey if that would make a difference.

thanks for any help before I order online!

Yes you can get it on the day but i believe you need to go to the registry where your birth was registered

I think you can get them in person from the register office the birth was registered at.

ok. does the fact that I'm 41 make any difference?! I am just wondering if I make the journey, would they have it there and then or would they for certain have it or would being a bit older than computerised records cause a problem.

I am soooo frutrated at the late hour this has been dropped on me!
  • I had to get a copy of mine a couple of years ago, and I believe if you order in person from your Register Office before 2pm you can collect it within 2 hours.

No - being 41 will make no difference.

I have done this quite a few times ....the speed of service varies between offices , I have known some produce them in 20mins, others take 2 or 3 hours. The cost for same day service will be higher than a normal certificate as well.

I would check the opening times on their website and get there early. Alternatively you can ring ahead, give the details and some offices will have it ready for when you arrive....but it often depends on staffing and how busy they are.

Echo - was that at your local registry office or the one closest to where you were born?

For a same day certificate, you will have to go to the office that covers the registration district where your birth was registered ....

darn it! was hoping I could avoid the journey. In same county to birth area but about as far away as I could be from whilst still being in same county - any chance of getting it locally or am I clutching at straws?!!!

The certificate is a copy of an entry in a paper register .... to get a copy the same day, you have to go to where the register is.

Or you can order them online from the GRO (General Register Office) who hold the centralised copies, but that will take at least one day, probably two, to arrive (if you use their priority service).
