I had a look at doing this a while back but found it a bit too confusing. I worked out my points I would be allowed, using several online calculators, and it came up as 26 - which is the lowest you are apparently allowed. But then one of the ways the system is meant to work is that you reduce your points as you lose weight and since I have about 3 stone to lose I didn't really see how that was going to work if I was starting on the minimum!

I'm in the same position as you, podperson. I've got quite a bit to lose, and have stuck rigidly to 26 points. I haven't touched my 49, either. I go to the gym, I box, I swim regularly. I don't have a car and walk everywhere. I've lost less than 2lbs since I started and that was over 8 weeks ago. Maybe WW isn't for me!

once you know how many points you are 'allowed' i have created a spreadsheet for my wife to use, which calculates her points for each bit of food she has and tracks it throughout the week (including the weekly bonus points) which i can send you if you want it,

its generally quite simple, although do not garentee 100% accuracy with the formula's i have used, i have found it to be pretty accurate and as said tracks as well as calculates which was the one feature that the free calculators we found at the time didnt do (dont know if they do now though)

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

I've just been calorie-counting and am finding it's working quite well for me. Have lost 3lbs in the last 2 weeks, and would probably have been more but have been full of a cold for half of this week so not been as strict as I should have been and haven't felt up to doing any exercise.

I obviously didn't read the WW website properly - as I ordered their deluxe pack with the books, journal and calculator and thought I would have everything I needed to start- however it does not explain in any way how it works. The last time I did weight watchers it was on the old plan.
I have looked at the prices for meetings and online, and it is so much more expensive than I remember. With a young baby, I am not going to be able to go to the meetings on a regular basis and would not really use it online- just want to use my books at home!
Can anyone suggest a resource online or offline which will tell me what I need to know?
Thanks a lot for any help or suggestions

There is loads of WW info out there just search. I put myself on a WW programme purely with just info from the web. I started in the third week of February and have lost 3 1/2 stone. It is one of the easiest diets I have ever been on and I am never hungry.

There are WW things you can bu from eBay and here are some useful sites:

KiKi, could you try increasing your daily ProPoint allowance to something a little higher (maybe 28 or 29) for a week or two and see if that changes things? If you're doing a fair bit of exercise you may not be eating enough and increasing your ProPoints may therefore give you a boost (as silly as that sounds!). Alternatively, dive into that weekly 49 PP allowance once in a while; I'm not convinced that not eating into them helps you lose weight quicker.
Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt. So it goes.

When you say quite a bit to lose, how much exactly if you don't mind saying. I started ww last night and do have a lot to lose and was given a pro points value of 36 per day. It was explained that this must be used, so using less wont make you lose weight quicker, in fact the opposite, so are you sure you are meant to only have 26 points? The online tracker is ace, I have 12 left for today so need to work out what to have for later.

I'm at the end of my first week on my 3rd spell of low carbing and have lost 5kg. In one week. Of course, it will slow down now, but 2kg a week is realistic, if you've a fair bit to lose.

You're not eating enough for all that exercise!

The 49 is there to be eaten, all of it, every week.

26 pp is only about 1040 calories a day.

If you are looking for a free alternative to WW, you could try My Fitness Pal which is a calorie counting site. You enter in your food choices and it calculates the calories, the protein, carb and fat content as well as some other things (like sugar / sodium) if you choose. It has a few of the features of the WW site, like a recipe builder and message board (although it is predominantly USA bases so there's a fair bit of low carb / strength training type posts). I used to do WW but realised I was paying out when it no longer worked for me so I've swapped to this.
