When you say quite a bit to lose, how much exactly if you don't mind saying. I started ww last night and do have a lot to lose and was given a pro points value of 36 per day. It was explained that this must be used, so using less wont make you lose weight quicker, in fact the opposite, so are you sure you are meant to only have 26 points? The online tracker is ace, I have 12 left for today so need to work out what to have for later.
    :j

But I don't eat less than the 26; I eat 26. :) I use the online tracker every day. It did the calculation, not me, so unless *they're* wrong..!!

I'm 12 stone 4, and in an ideal world I should be around 10st 7 to 11st. Anything less than 10 and I'd look quite unhealthy.

You're not eating enough for all that exercise!

The 49 is there to be eaten, all of it, every week.

26 pp is only about 1040 calories a day.

Actually, the 49 is there if you need it; it's not a requirement. :)

I don't go into the 49 because I don't eat foods that tend to require me to go into it. If I went out for a meal, I probably would go into it. But I'm not going to eat for the sake of it. I just don't eat the type of foods that would ever make me eat that much. :)

I disagree that 26 pp is around 1040 a day. It depends entirely on what you eat. I tend to eat high protein foods, and I eat a lot of fruit and veg. You could eat 0 points in a day on fruit and veg, and yet still hit 2000 calories (the one flaw I think in the Pro Points plan!). I have calorie counted in the last week as well, to try and work out what's happening, and I hit an average of 1600 a day with my 26 points, so nothing like 1040.

If I *only* calorie counted with no exercise, I'd have to eat around 1200 before I'd lose anything at all, for several weeks. Tried and tested! But that's not enough food for me and I don't consider that healthy, either, so I'm not doing that. 1600 with exercise should be fine. I don't over-exercise, either (I'm not motivated enough for that!). I probably do 40 mins 5 times a week; it's not overkill.

I used to lose weight really easily - and then I hit 30. It's been much harder since then! Just glad I got the first 3 stone off some time ago as I dread to think what state I'd be in now otherwise!!

I think pro points just doesn't work for me...the fruit count probably screws it up as I do tend to eat a lot of fruit. The old WW worked for me (lost the 3 stone on it), but not sure about this one.

My weight's not the end of the world, but my family are all very big, and have health problems now with joints and diabetes; I don't want to go there. :) I think I'll probably carry on using it as a guide, but just use sensible judgement on a few aspects of my diet instead. :)

Thanks for the comments, though. :)

The old weight-weighters points was basically calorie counting - 1 point was roughly 100cals. I think they've tried to make it more 'atkins-based' by basing the points on carb levels as well - which I think is going to be less universally successful as low carbs seems to work for some people but not others.
Kiki - I do a base level calorie count of 1200 per day but if you have exercise you can add more.

I'm no expert but will happily pass on the info I know as I have lost 8 stone by doing ww.

I lost just over 2 stone in 2009 and 2010 with the old points system. I lost more weight with pro points loosing over 3 stone in 2011 and then half a stone in the beginning of 2012 to reach my goal weight on the 4th Feb.

As a general rule 1pp = 40 calories, so you can use that rule when say eating out and the menu lists the calories only as will give you a pretty good indication of what pp to put down.

The lowest pp you can be on is 26, so based on this x the 40 rule you get 1040 calories a day BUT fresh fruit and veg (not all though) have a 0pp value, if you were to suddenly add the calories of an apple, banana etc you'd soon reach the daily amount you should consume calorie wise to loose weight. The reason they're 0pp is to encourage people to reach the recommended portions a day, not to gorge on fruit, of course it has calories. It's all a mind trick as on the old plan I hardly ate bananas, they were 3 points, I didn't wanna waste 3 points on fruit, every point was worth spending wisely. Now that a banana is 0pp means I eat 3 portions of fruit a day as well as my daily points. The daily points have assumed you'll eat the recommended portions of fruit and veg and then reflect the daily points allowance you're given.

The 1st year pro points was around the lowest was 29pp, ww have always said if people prefer to have 29pp as the lowest for them rather than 26pp they can.

Now, if you have the calculator which I'm sure you will have if you purchase the deluxe pack you can set it up with your personal details and it will tell you you're daily pp allowance. It also tracks for you, so you have a slice of toast at 2pp, you can put in 2 and it till deduct it from your daily total.

Once your daily total is reached it will start taking pp off the weekly 49 allowance.

It will also let you re enter your weight after a week and if you go down a daily pp it will tell you your new allowance.

The only thing you might need that I assume you won't get in the deluxe pack is a folder, I think they're blue now, you get this when you join a meeting, it has a pocket guide with general foods list. I'm sure people will be selling them on ebay.

The folder WILL NOT tell you how to work out your daily pp, the leader at meetings works it out for you exactly the same way you can with the calculator in the deluxe pack.

Phew.....hope I have had sense, lol.

At 13 stone I had 29 points and 49 over the week. However you can double the points values from anything you had before as a minimum. For an example a Rich Tea biscuits was 1 point it is now 2. It was a bit of a blow because I knew the points of EVERYTHING. previously.

    Good luck
  • I'm not sure how much you have to lose, but I have got 12 weeks free via my primary care trust. You would then get 12 weeks worth of info to carry on yourself.
