Can I still cancel my T-Mobile contract?

I've had the phone since last tuesday

I got a new contract (with T-Mobile) as I wanted a new phone, and my old contract runs out in 4 months but I want to keep that number and it has more mobile internet on that plan

However, my phone has a micro-SIM port, and my old phone had a normal SIM card

I asked T-Mobile who said it would cost me £10 to get a new micro-SIM card, so I said okay just transfer my number over to the new contract and they told me they can't do that, I need to get a new contract with another company, transfer my number over, and then they'll transfer it back

This is ridiculous, so I want to just go with another provider

P.S. As for the £10 cost to get a Micro-SIM, when my old contract runs out, I still wouldn't be able to transfer my number over would I?

Another option is to cut your old sim down to a mirco sim, there are either templates on the net or buy a sim cutter off the net.

But if it's a really old sim it may not work in the new phone......

Yes, T-mobile routinely charge £10ish for any replacement card, even if yours is lost/stolen.
    Other options:
    • Cut the old sim. With an adaptor it still can be used in the old phone.
    • Request PAC and port the number to the new network. You'll have to pay in a lump sum (termination fee) all the money due for the remaining months.
Edit: I missed the fact that both contract are with t-mobile. In this case the only way to transfer the number is in two steps via another network: Moving my number from T-Mobile to T-Mobile!

Did you get the phone on line, on a TM store, or a 3rd party store. Depending where you got the phne will depend what the cancellation options are.

Online you should have 14 days under the DSR. TM store may have a store returns policy thats a goodwill policy rather than a legal right, 3rd party store may have another policy , for example Phones4U will not allow any returns.

You have had good advice from others on here - and it is 7 days DSR not 14.

Why did you not ask those questions before you tied yourself to a 24 month contract??? Now you have a bit of a mess. You should have checked on here first - as you probably know now.

I don't understand the bit in red above. You don't think you can transfer the data from the old plan to the new do you?

What 'data'? The allowance cannot be transferred.

The new phone came with a micro sim and a poor contract with small data allowance.

The old sim is normal, has 4 months left with a better contract, but cannot be used in the new handset because of the size.

The OP doesn't want to waste £10ish on replacing the old sim with a micro one.

Mobile internet = data. The question I posed was rhetorical and that's why I said I couldn't understand the bit I quoted as obviously you can't transfer bits from one plan to another.

Yeah I wasn't sure if it was 7 or 14

I didn't know the phone had a MicroSIM port :(

Usually I just swap the SIMs over on my new phones

My new contract has 750MB data, the old one has 3GB

If I get a PAC code, it will put my number on my new phone, but will it cancel my current (old) contract or just use the original number I was given for taht one?

    Thanks

Porting a number always terminates the contract.
Your best option is just to cut the old sim to a micro size.
Either just use a knife or buy a sim cutter.
If needed, buy a micro sim adapter to use a micro sim in the old phone.

Thanks for the link, but just had a look at those and the SIM is different to mine

The T-Mobile ones have a long strip on, so those cutters would cut right through the metal contacts
