Spiders - normal ?

I don't mind spiders in the house, aslong as they don't drop on me or crawl on me.
I always sleep with my mouth closed in fear of one crawling in lol.
Which means if I ever have a cold I go to extreme lengths to ensure my nose is unblocked so that I can breathe through my nose when I sleep.
Its wasps that send me running, screaming like a wuss!!0 -
A house spider? Do they bite?
We have house cats, they are the ideal bug catchers. I can't remember the last time I saw an insect here.
This one did! I was barefoot and trod on it. Felt a sharp pain in my toe, lifted my foot up and there was a big spider, waving its front legs at me furiously. Can't blame it really, if a Monty Pythonesque foot had landed on me, I'd be pretty furious too! :rotfl:
My toe was all red and stung for ages afterwards. I always wear shoes now.
Wish my cats would deal with the spiders. They just sit there watching. <rolls eyes>0 -
We seem to have a lot of spiders this year too - but then we have a lot of gnats and mosquitos too so the spiders are keeping that population in check when they get indoors.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

Euch reading this has given me the shivers. I can't stand spiders. I literally freeze on the spot, can't do anything when I see one and when I can finally scream, I do and DP will kindly put them outside for me. He won't kill them and tbh I wouldn't want them killed I just don't want them where I can see them. I actually don't mind them in the house as I know they do good things I just hate the thought of actually seeing them. I know I have 2 living behind my fireplace but I have seen them once in 7 weeks so they can stay.
I have a cat who still lives with my mum (he's too old to move house now, he's happy there.) and he won't go near spiders.
I am dying to go to Australia to see my uncle but the one thing that is seriously putting me off is the spiders, if I could get over that I would be fine. It's a fear that has been there for 20 years though.0 -
Kill Them! Kill Them All!!!!
I'd rather a house full of flies than one solitary spider. I'm terrified of them. I've asked strangers off the street to remove them. I've made my husband come home from work (a 20 mile round trip) to get rid of one. I've sat in the car rather than in the living room once when there was one on the move as there was nobody around to kill it.
And it's no use just to pick them up and out them out - they come back in. I have witnessed this with my own eyes.
I repeat - Kill Them.0 -
But...they're just spiders. *shrug*
I believe certain zoos run "anti-phobia" courses. They give positive reinforcement about spiders and show you them in tanks and things. The aim is to work up to holding a tarantula. Apparently they're very successful!

The redbacks are a hoot, they kill you stone-dead with one bite. They're pretty small though, so you probably wouldn't even notice it before you suddenly croak.
Sydney funnelwebs are hilarious too, they hide in the loo and kill you by biting your bum.
I stayed in a ground-floor room in Melbourne once where the huntsman spiders would climb up the curtains during the night. In the morning the sun would flood into the room silhouetting all these monsters (and they are BIG!) hanging on the nets. Used to lie in bed counting them, most amusing.Je suis Charlie.0
