Hi Robin, to be honest I think I would go with CD's gloop over a fast food burger any day!! Sounds like she is being well cared for, I hope she is feeling better for it.
I wouldn't be surprised about the job advert coming up in lots of searches or such, I know my brothers company has the same, nearly 300 because it came up in searches for london, art and advertising! x

Glad to hear CD likes the vet's gloop! :T At least she's eating that's a good sign surely?
It was my friend who was telling me about the dogs collapsing in the heat, she is a dog trainer and meets lots of puppies and doggies on a daily basis. She said it's mainly the working dogs who will do this they just go till they collapse, she has 2 springers herself and has told me she has to lock them in the house on some hot days because they will just go and go until they drop  nothing like my little one he will just lay down wherever he is when he's had enough

Dear Diary and weekend readers, :hello:
Two days ago I wrote a wonderfully cheerful, upbeat update. For some reason it would not post (you know when that little arrow creeps around the circle on the page-tab, but never 'progresses'?).
Yesterday several things changed so most of said post is no longer relevant. The only parts worth c&p'ing are below:Brightspark87 wrote: »to be honest I think I would go with CD's gloop over a fast food burger any day!! Sounds like she is being well cared for, I hope she is feeling better for it.
Thanks for popping in, Sparky.
Do think CD is starting to feel better - bruises on my chest and arm attest to that!
..Wasn't expecting her to jump up when asked if she fancied a walk - because it's been so long since she's done that - therefore failed to step back or deflect CD's 'bounce' as she hit me square-on, oops. My fault, absolutely. Can't be cross at a sign that CD is feeling brighter.Brightspark87 wrote: »I wouldn't be surprised about the job advert coming up in lots of searches or such, I know my brothers company has the same, nearly 300 because it came up in searches for london, art and advertising! x
Wow; 300 applicants for one job? Yours is a specialised field too.
Ha, will have to tell Boss he's lucky his business is outside London! Heard he has appointed the candidate who, on paper, I thought looked like the best one to fit into his current team (although kept it a private bet until after Boss made his choice; just sent the short-list without comment - felt I'd had quite enough input into his hiring procedure, lol). Hope it works out for them both.debtfreewannabe321 wrote:It was my friend who was telling me about the dogs collapsing in the heat, she is a dog trainer and meets lots of puppies and doggies on a daily basis. Thanks for commenting, DFw.
..That is interesting. Actually - thinking back, I remember something similar: One day DS4 took Little Girl for a long hike during his last visit before she went to Rainbow Bridge - when they got back she looked so ill we were desperately worried (gave her rehydration fluid syringed into her mouth, alternating with Manuka honey. Covered her with damp towels where she'd collapsed, then cuddled her until she recovered - took about half an hour as I recall, so not sure how close to heat-stroke she came? No rush to DV on that occasion because Little Girl didn't need IVs).
 So yes, DFw, your friend's words make sense - but tbh Little Girl wasn't as bright as CD. Cheerful, loving and willing to her last breath - which is why she kept going alongside her master who didn't realise they'd gone too far.. Little Girl just hadn't got CD's ability to 'think for herself' and insist on turning back before becoming exhausted. :A
Yesterday, CD's demeanour changed completely, not for the better: So flat-out she didn't even get up until sunset! ..Then wanted to go for a walk; convincingly relieved my concern that her kidneys might have packed up, but turned back just outside the gate and returned to 'her spot' where she'd spent the day.
She's still there now. Gives a slow wag and rolls over for a tickle, but has no energy at all.
Would be no point in taking CD back to DV's clinic because we already have the medication she recommends - but - there is one other supplement I am very tempted to try.
It's not something I've used for a dog before, although rate it very highly for two-legged people with liver problems. Alternative vet sites on the 'net do recommend it.
Mentioned it to DV last time we spoke; she said she's never heard of an adverse reaction in dogs but couldn't advise on dosage because she's never given it to any of her patients.
Reckon we've reached the point at which it's worth a try; am going to give CD a quarter of the dose I take myself (based on calculations from sites mentioned above). Hoping it will enhance the effect of DV's allopathic drugs, while improving CD's overall liver function.
Fingers crossed please.0 -
Everything crossed here. You have obviously done your research, so here's hoping for good results. When we lived in the south, we had marvelous vets, one of which did acupuncture and homeopathy on his own animals and any of his patients whose owners wished to go that route. When my darling Springer Spaniel showed signs of confusion/dementia he suggested a veterinary food supplement which worked wonders, my own dear mother in law had absolutely nothing offered by the medics, I know who I would rather have treat me!
All good wishes coming your way.

..Quite agree; sometimes it's hard to believe how much faster and simpler it is to get medical attention for our pets!
I have always thought there is a place for 'alternative' treatments alongside conventional medicine (- had some pretty good results with this philosophy over the years).
Well, an hour after taking the supplement, CD got up and ate her lunch (having left it sitting there since 11.30). Now she's lying next to her bowl watching me - can I see a gleam of hope in her eyes that another spoonful of gloop will appear?
..'Wait and see' time (for us both,).
Meanwhile there is a large, distressing plume of dark smoke rising above the mountain ridge to the West of the Nest. A stream of 'planes and choppers flying back and forth to the coast and the closest reservoir for supplies of water are a very welcome sight; surprisingly noisy as the sound of chopper-rotors echo, thudding back and forth across the hills.
No danger here - unless the wind changes direction by 180' - but incredibly sad knowing that wildlife and woodland in an area of outstanding natural beauty is being lost - not to mention concern for emergency services personell who are putting their lives at risk, battling what appears to be a huge blaze (a dozen aircraft suggests at least a hundred fire-fighters on the ground).0 -
Fingers crossed here too for CD Robin. Hope that blaze is sorted soon too. We've got the tail end of Hurricane Bertha here, torrential rain and very windy.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

Thank you, Sun.A.This morning CD has already been out to inspect the Nest's borders, check out overnight scents and monitor the neighbours driving up to work on their land. Then she came inside and shouted for breakfast (which she never usually asks for!).
:rotfl:
..Needless to say, we'll be continuing with the experimental supplement! (Deliberately not named; don't want to encourage any one else to take a risk like this - but tbh, CD's condition yesterday morning strongly suggested that we didn't have anything to lose by trying).
I'll have another chat with DV later; need to pick up more gloop as am now more hopeful CD will outlive our diminishing supply.Sun_Addict wrote: »Hope that blaze is sorted soon too. We've got the tail end of Hurricane Bertha here, torrential rain and very windy.
Forest blaze was 'controlled' overnight, thank goodness. No casualties reported. No 'planes this morning, no visible smoke, not much wind; so hopefully any isolated pockets of fire have now been extinguished - phew and huge applause to the amazing fire-fighters. :T
Have been watching your weather closely too, Sun.A - there were floods not far away from homehome - such a shame for everyone trying to have a holiday with their kids, and a ruddy annoyance for everyone else (Missrlr - hope your building works / new windows were sorted out before Bertha landed!).
But for CD's health / Irrigation Bloke / Lawyer / my ME tardiness, we would have been camping in East Anglia this past weekend.. Can't help feeling CD and I have had a lucky escape, lol.
Question is, what's the weather going to do over the next month? :think:0 -
So pleased to hear CD is perkier this morning :T.
We have very strong winds here today, heavy rain yesterday, doesn't feel like August at all. However, we are luckier than lots of parts of the world and for that I'm very grateful. XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

Thanks, Lucky - me too! She is more alert as well; lying next to me again, but every time I look at CD, her good eye is watching me back. Up until yesterday lunchtime, she just slept (didn't even notice when I had to step over her).please-let-me-be-lucky wrote: »We have very strong winds here today, heavy rain yesterday, doesn't feel like August at all.
Your words remind me of going to the beach on such days, being the only family there. Kids playing "let's fly" by egging on the dogs to pull 'em at speed across low-tide mud while I huddled with whoever was the youngest, trying to keep him warm / out of the drizzly spray and watching DH disappear in the direction of the nearest pub..
Ah, happy times.. :rotfl:please-let-me-be-lucky wrote: »However, we are luckier than lots of parts of the world and for that I'm very grateful. Xx
You are so right! ..Makes me weep, the objects man chooses to rain down on fellow man..0 -
DH and I said this morning, we were glad m'brother didn't have to drive his caravan home yesterday (he heads home today), then realised we were also glad we weren't camping in a tent. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0
