Hello Diary and Dear MSE Friends, :hello:
Well, perhaps its what you need. Enjoy the jaunt :)

..You were right; a 100% successful trip did much to restore confidence. :)
While we were waiting for Plumber at one point, CD and I went for a walk in our 'favourite' town park which produced a huge surprise - we met a dog who looked almost identical to our dear late Blind Dog, bar being about 30cms taller! He was obviously very old, but still played stiffly with CD while his owner and I chatted. Turned out that this strangely familiar dog is the son of BD's brother, out of a Belgian Shepherd the lady used to own - I nearly cried! :A

Managed to persuade the campo-shop manager to exchange a hose-pipe which I had regretted buying on the last trip to town - @ £54! - for a credit note which will come in handy later (phew - that mistake alone had been causing me grief recently; really must learn not to go shopping when feeling down :().
I mean. More than £50 for a hose-pipe? That's ridiculous; an MP on expenses price, not for a widow with limited budget such as yours truly. :o
Anyway, it will provide a pile of capillary drip-feed pipes later on (so long as I don't lose the credit note, lol). Which neatly puts it into the budget for an automatic irrigation system. :)

The other upcoming expense from m' previous long post has been dealt with. Was very impressed when Divo Four's finances allowed him to pay the bill for restoration of heirloom before asking for funds - it would appear his part-time modelling career has significant potential (amazing how such a painfully shy child has metamorphosed into a young man who has no qualms at all about being in front of an audience. To be fair, he's not unpleasant to look at :p).
Plans to sell said heirloom are on hold - reckon DS4 has decided he would like to inherit it when the time comes. ;)

Something has gone wrong with Lappy; screen is suddenly very dim. Have swapped over to DH's machine which is disconcertingly different, and annoyingly no longer seems to have a pop-up blocker.
It's a job for Divo Two. He turned up last week with DGD. No mention of earlier discord, which tbh is his way - but of course neither of us wanted to argue in front of DGD. We spent a pleasant afternoon playing Mah Jong because the weather was blowing a wet gale, and DS installed a cable between Lappy and TV which allowed me to watch Ca!! the Midwi$e on the big screen. Hasn't worked since though, so I guess one programme a month is my allocation. Got to laugh: :rotfl:

    .....

CD would like me to apologise for leaving a half-written post (yet again!). She has a more important call on my time; lunch. As there is 3kg of chicken to be chopped then bagged in portions, am going to post this in case I lose it to the vagaries of DH's laptop before having the opportunity to come back (a distinct possibility - it keeps asking to re-start).. :o

ETA a quick :hello: to Granny!
  • That's only fair, CD is waaaaay more important than us peasants in the box!!

Glad you are both ok. Xx

Hello Diary and Dear Friends, :hello:

It's been a quiet few days at the Nest, except for the wind of course, lol. No spends, not much computer-time (still having problems with unsolicited sites popping up all over the place, which kill whatever I'm looking at. For some reason they are less active in the wee hours - wonder why that should be, hmmm?).
Hope DS2 can install L!nux very soon and stop all the rubbish (his departure has been delayed for a couple of weeks, thank goodness).

Thanks for being so understanding re CD's lunch, Lucky - and thanks for giving me a chuckle. :)
That's only fair, CD is waaaaay more important than us peasants in the box!!

Let's just say CD's need was noisily immediate at that time, lol. ;)

The freezer is now laden with a month's supply of doggy dinner portions. So laden in fact, that muggins broke a drawer handle while trying to extract a packet. Silly Robin. Another item on the glueing list, hohum. :o

Granny and Knit Witch, think we were all stumbling around in a dark pit.. Shame we didn't come across each other; a brew, a chinwag and possibly a decent bottle to share would have been a good way of passing time until finding the way out..
Do hope Life is looking more cheerful for you both now. :grouphug:

Satchmo your move must be imminent - are you taking a break in France? That sounds like a wonderful way of dividing 'old' and 'new' houses, plus being a great stress-buster! :T

Re NiceN's brain-damaged dog: He knows. We have spoken about safety precautions before, and his daughter hasn't walked the dog since that day. Tbh, better they have a 'close-call reminder' with me than a group of children - doubt that dog will leave his compound again without NiceN being in close attendance.

Missrlr - do hope the dehumidifiers have done their job and your window dilemma has been solved by now. :)
Sorry to have been posting less lately - pc problems, combined with an awful lot of work to do in the garden.. :o

Buffy thanks for dropping in - sorry to read that the Black Dog visits you too - he's a busy I]insert rude word here[/I isn't he? ..Still, hopefully that means he keeps moving, keeps moving on - unwelcome beast!
Do you think we're the only MSEers who haven't re-claimed PPI - maybe we could encourage each other? :)

Hi Sun.A, had to smile at your description of life at the Nest:

I wondered where you'd got to but obviously loads of stuff has been happening. Never a dull moment!

..If only you could see the reality (which involves a lot of plodding, :rotfl:)!

Hello Amber, wasn't it all so much easier when we could solve our babies' problems with a kiss and a cuddle? <sigh>
Don't know whether our friends currently with young children would agree, but those really [STRIKE]are[/STRIKE] were the best days.. :)

SbO, aha so you also indulge in manic cleaning? You've got plenty of it of course - hope the other house is just about ready for it's new tenants! :)

Gosh. Thank you all so much for being wonderfully supportive; am truly humbled. :T
Please don't worry when I go quiet - probably won't be posting much until DH's lappy has been sorted out - popups have just started again; 8am I]cursewords[/I.

Right. The birds are singing, it's light - and glory be; there's no wind! :D
Three more trees right at the bottom of the garden still await their half sack of manure and mulching - that's today's task. :)

    Dear Diary and Friends-in-the-Box, :hello:

<Close two small pop-ups, then the new browser which opens as a result. Thirty seconds later the page am looking at is totally obscured by a demand to install a fake copy of J@va. Zilch page, go back to email alerts, open new page. Close same two small pop-ups..etc - aaargh!>

..The really annoying thing about all this, is that when I bought DH's laptop, I also bought three years' protection from one of the best known anti-virus providers. Well, it certainly hasn't been three years since DH died - so am very disappointed!

Granny thanks for popping in - yesterday didn't go quite as planned; decided was too wobbly to be carrying buckets down and up the steep garden paths, so spent a peaceful couple of hours weeding broad beans - until CD got bored, and was noisy at me until I gave up and took her for a walk.

NiceN's wife was about to go out. She got half way across their compound then obviously remembered, went back and put their poor deranged dog inside the house before opening the gate.
She had not seen CD and self watching, so am reasonably confident the family have had a discussion about keeping the dog secure. :T

Am beginning to feel very uneasy about THEM. Can I get into trouble for over-paying tax?

Another question: If you were a tenant who wanted to buy your home, what would you say when approaching the landlord?

Right. It's taken five go back, save, zilch page & reload cycles to get this far - enough!
  • Hello Robin :D

We've got a new laptop as the other one died and I can't seem to get rid of the pop ups either :( thought I had it cracked by downloading an adware blocker but I seem to get pages open every time I open chrome or everytime I try to open a new tab. They also randomly pop up whilst using the net and I can't get rid of them. Would love to know the answer to this one :o

As for approaching your landlord about the buying of their house, have they made any signal that they are happy to off load? If so I should think it will be very easy. If not then, ummmm, ask nicely? And say please :D (lol sorry i've no idea hope someone else has a better plan ;) ) xx

    Hi Robin

I've sent my DS1 a FB message to see if he has any suggestions about cleaning your computer infestation. He may be able to advise remotely. Microsoft's free anti-virus download is as good as anything you pay for.

    Cheers, Satchmo

DS says "you've probably unwittingly installed a browser extension which is causing that" he can't offer a solution from a distance, though. Its removal process also depends on whether you use Google, Internet Explorer, Firefox or whatever as your internet browser.

That almost sounded as if I knew of which I speak, lol.

  • De-lurking to say I found this on the techie stuff forum https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4913812

I had something similar recently and found out they're called PuP's, not usually dangerous but very annoying. I got rid of mine but as you don't 'know' me I wouldn't expect you to follow a strange link from a stranger iyswim.

But while I'm here I shall also take the opportunity to write how much I admire you for your wisdom and your grace. Take care x
