Can I have some of your beautiful calorie free cake for breakfast please?

Overpayments to THEM over a certain amount attracts interest. No idea what the amount is though.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Hello Diary and Pop-Up-Party Friends, :D :hello:

Thank you Missrlr, Lucky, Knit Witch, Granny and Satchmo for calling in; glad you all enjoyed yourselves while I was snoozing on the sofa last night - thanks very much to whoever cleared up (;)).

Woke up very short of breath this morning, poor ol' heart thumping away. Sign of things to come, no doubt, but will not be going down the heavy medication, supplementary oxygen route followed by care home for the duration.
It's a reminder to update my PoA - one of the attorneys has died [DH] and the other is in a worse state than I am.
Also to press on with finding a solution for my other elephant; HP. Might turn out to be the most useful thing I can still do for Divo Four, as he launches on his adult life.

WOOO HOOO elephant munched! So pleased for you and to have paid the relevant amounts too. You can always argue the toss about amounts later on assuming no disaster on the cash flow front.

Had another look at TR calculations; can see where I went wrong. When it asked for SE earnings I put in total rental income before deductions, which had to be entered again later under income from lettings..
Effectively THEY now think I earned double the actual figure; hence falling off m' chair at the total tax demanded. Works out at least 40% - obviously not right, but that's a battle for another day.
Whoever ends up fielding this problem is going to get some un-requested feedback about THEIR ruddy system, in particular the user's apparent inability to check the full calculation before submission.

That's worth knowing - wonder if it yields more than a standard savings a/c?
Perhaps I should find out before calling THEM - ha, better get at least £50 'phone-creds in preparation for dialling their wretched no-alternative premium rate number (something else to give 'feedback' on again ).

Found all m' notes and details re old debt to THEM; confirming it was paid off months ago so altogether THEY are looking after a fair chunk of my funds atm. :o

I have been reliably informed that THEY now happily accept electronic copies of receipts and so on. Might consider this as I have many months of filing to actually do! Plus having panicked about paperwork being damaged by flooding of houses I am entering a paranoid stage of life I think! That is my elephant for the weekend.

Good luck with your elephant, Missrlr - it must be so frustrating having the threat of more floods hanging over your head; I feel for you (((hugs))).

Such a shame to hear you are having to consider selling a piece of family history, but I am sure your Great Grandad would rather you benefit from it than look at it and be in trauma. Hopefully the benefit will be felt throughout the family!
I'm sure you are doing the right thing with the heirloom. Let's hope it goes to a museum to be appreciated by many.

The truth is that I will never be able to provide a setting which justifies this particular masterpiece. When the old family home was sold, all great-grandchildren were given a 'treasure' - a cash in the attic item; m' cousins sold theirs years ago (mostly to help provide a deposit for house purchases).

Still waiting to hear the estimate for restoration (and current value). Looked up the company on MrGoog!e; recommended by Royal Appointment as well as the gentleman who has restored other family antiques (he put DS4 in touch with these exalted experts). The head man - who came to inspect - was on TV recently, deciding whether an art work was fake or not.
..Which ups the probable bill of course, but on the other hand, there's nothing on the firm's website for less than £10K, so am reasonably confident it's the right decision to sell.

    Hi Robin

I had a similar issue as you (not with rental income but with looking at the calculation before submitting) but have managed to locate Part 6 which is where you can review.

Interestingly as you click through each part of the Tax Return it never takes you to the calculation so when it jumped to Part 7 and I realised that DH would either have to carry forward some losses or lose them I saved where I was and then on the left hand side of the screen where you can click Part 1 - 8 I clicked on 6 and it took me to the calculation (which meant I could agree to carry forward losses to make best use of tax rebate).

I know this info is no good for this year but hopefully will help for next year.

Hope you can sort this out with HMRC without it costing too much in phone calls.

Hello Diary and cake-[STRIKE]lovers[/STRIKE] aficionados, :hello:

A noisy wind buffeted the Nest all day yesterday, blowing almond petals under the door and all the way into the kitchen.

CD and I went out socialising in the afternoon, to a community craft workshop. :)
It was great fun but tiring; had to leave a little early when m' personal fuel-gauge suddenly hit empty - hope the organiser understood. :o

It was chilly last night, but didn't light the stove because both energy and firewood supplies were too low. Instead kept warm by wearing many layers including a ski-jacket, with nether regions swaddled in a blanket (weighed down by CD - she's a tad heavy for a lap-dog but a great hand-warmer :p).

Baked a store-cupboard cake when I'd caught m' second wind so the oven helped warm up the Nest - a bit - but it was still only 15'C indoors, so gave up and retired to bed.

Anyone fancy Victoria Sponge for lunch? Help yourselves.. ;)

Had a stroke of luck there; realised payment was due to be made yesterday but because of the weekend it hadn't yet gone through - now cancelled (that's put £180 back into the budget** :T).

**Which has been immediately swallowed - DS2 'phoned; on the way to his brake-fixing appointment the rear section of the exhaust pipe fell off his car. <sigh> Quote for replacement: £180
..Reckon I really should have a chat with Divo Two about buffing up his karma (and the benefits of regular car maintenance :o).

One result of sorting out the accounts, is that it's become obvious my annual spend on other people is more than twice what it costs me to live.
 Don't think this [STRIKE]can[/STRIKE] ought to continue, even though my Divos and DGC are the major beneficiaries.

While catching up on spends; must note £130 to DS4 (advance payment for visiting Tenants to do their regular inspections - involves a train and two bus journeys so includes expenses for those). Plus £15 for the workshop yesterday.

Oh, and yet again couldn't think of a suitable birthday gift for DGD, so popped 50€ into a card for her. Yes ok in one way it's a cop-out, but on the other hand it stops her life being filled with stuff she really has little interest in (and would annoy her mother).
DGD does seem to take great pleasure in the steadily increasing balance of her savings account - that is my major justification for taking the easy option (others are: A, it's good to encourage MSE habits and B, for many years I was unable to be so generous - and might have to cut back again in the future, having now worked out last year's expenditure :o).

Hi Satchmo, thanks for that link. :T
Interesting - will ask THEM when I 'phone up.

May I offer you another slice of cake? ..Be careful when you bite, I somewhat overdid the cream layer :p

Hello EE - you are one elephant who is very welcome at the Nest, lol - thanks very much for adding your wisdom to this conundrum. :T
Wonder if the direct flick over Part 6 is deliberate on THEIR part? ..Will definitely bring that up during the doubtless extortionately expensive 'phone conversation.***
***Shall we start a book on the cost? £50 is my maximum guess but am hoping for £30 :o

The wind has dropped at ground level today, and the sun just emerged from behind high racing clouds - am off to spend some time in the garden; catch a few rays while weeding. :cool2:

Feel a bit bad to be dropping in for cake again but if you must :o As I'm watching the calories atm in an attempt to drop a bit of weight before D day virtual is the only type of cake I'm allowed right now.

Thanks for the visit to my diary, thought I'd offer a little explanation about HIM

I've asked for a change of duties due to health situation. I spoke to HR about my request and they said that I have sufficient grounds and am covered under the equality act to request a reasonable adjustment to working terms . They then said it was for HIM to make the final decision as HE knows the business needs. I forwarded all the relevant information to HIM only for HIM to say HE couldn't make the decision as he doesn't know HRs policy on it. Although big boss gave me his backing, HE is still saying HE needs advice from HR. It's so frustrating as HE'S just dragging things out unnecessarily and reverting to previous form. In the end HE said HE wanted a letter from my GP to evidence my situation despite having first hand knowledge of it all over the last year. It'll be sorted eventually but everything is a fight with HIM having to jump through hoops to get the decision made. HE'S a really bad decision maker and just will not think outside the box. Despite wanting it to be sorted out before I go off, it is unlikely to be and so I'm just going to put it out of my mind for now.

Anyway hope you are having a good day
