Help with cancelling mobile contract

Hey...
My ex has completely done me over with a mobile phone contact... He can screaming back into my life declaring his love for me and not long after we got back together started suggesting that I help him get a new phone contact as with him travelling a lot in the army it would be the best way for us to keep in contact...
I am normally really good at this type of thing and initially said no, but he worked and worked and I finally gave in and we went to orange and got a 24month contract on my account for him.
I knew things were too good to be true and the very next day, he said that his leave had been cancelled and that he had to go back to camp and that he wouldn't be able to contact me etc etc
Then he stopped texting and wouldn't answer my calls.
He put on Facebook that he was in a relationship with someone else, has deleted and blocked me and still wouldn't answer my calls.
I eventually after saying that I would report him to the police for theft got the mobile phone back from him via his dad, however when I went back to orange to tell them that I wanted the contract cancelled within the 14 days... They said no!!!
After breaking down and crying in the mobile phone shop, I was told to send a letter to orange in Hatfield asking them if they would be able to cancel the contract for me, I am not hopefully.
Now I know I'm a compete idiot and I shouldn't have been talked into it in the first place, but I'm pretty sure he only hot back in touch with me to deliberately deceive me and get this phone... Is there anything I can do to help the contract be cancelled or does anyone have any suggestions a to anything I can do????
Thank you

The contract can be cancelled if you pay it off.
Other than that, it's a contract, you agreed to it's terms, so you're stuck with it.0 -
You have to pay for the contract.
You can keep paying monthly or cancel and pay the lump sum with (possibly) about 1/6 discount.
[STRIKE]To stop him using the sim card report it lost to the network and make sure that it is your address that is registered with them and that they send a replacement sim to your address. This will ensure that you don't pay more than the standard monthly rate.
Also you can report the phone stolen to the network and they will block it (make it unusable). However you will not benefit from this in any way.[/STRIKE]
EDIT: I've missed the fact that he gave the phone back.0 -
Could you not take this up as theft. As the Phone was taken out in your name you would have good grounds to state it is yours, especially if it is an expensive one. You could then sell the phone and put the money towards paying off your contract.0

I think the easy answer is as you say sell the mobile put it towards paying the contract off. Send him a bill for the balance via his CO so that you know he gets it and doesn't put it in the bin.
Either way it's probably a small price to pay for showing his "true colours" ...better to find out now before the damage is worse than just a few quid on a contractIt's not just about the money0 -
I think 'theft' is when someone takes something without permission. If he was given the phone without any conditions, but refuses to return it, this is unlikely to qualify for theft.
The more I think about it the more my head hurts. This scenario is just like an episode of Judge Judy.0 -
Oh just re-read and noticed the phone is back with the OP... Apologies it is too early. Selling the phone and buying out is really the only option other than passing this contract on to a friend or family member.0

You agreed the contract and so have to abide by the terms or buy it out-which is pointless. Best thing to do is sell the handset to recoup some of the ongoing costs.
Orange are not going to offer anything, because any dispute with your ex is a 3rd party dispute-he has no contract with them.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
