My wife has no problem with smearing on hers but that's probably because she swears by one of these :D

It actually came included with the gel case and, much to her surprise, she loves it! Slots into the headphone jack when not in use.

PS The screen protector that also came with the case affected the sensitivity of the screen so was discarded.
  • Does this mean I could use my fingernail if I get this phone like on the MDA Vario? That was always so useful for changing pages on a thread etc., but I thought it only worked on resistive screens.
Also, can you disable the automatic portrait/landscape change facility, thus enabling you to use it lying on your side?

    1) Unfortunately not - it's fingertips only hence Mrs MBS using the afore-mentioned stylus.

    2) yes, you turn off the automatic portrait/landscape setting
  • I was misled by this, because I always thought a 'tap' was made with the fingernail. From the CNET review....
The screen can be a tad unresponsive too, especially to taps. Whether that's down to the addition of Gorilla Glass to toughen it up or Huawei shaving a few yuan off the build costs, I'm not sure. Either way, it's not a terribly unresponsive screen by any means but it tends to prefer you to spoon your thumb across the glass, rather than skate lightly over it.
Don't know how you're supposed to go to the next thread page by doing that!

Can you take screenprints on Android?

How embarrassed am I right now!! :o I observed my wife trying to get a response from using her nails and nothing so assumed it can't be done so I have always used the fingertip but I have just tried myself with my (much shorter) nails and it works! Could it be that 'long' nails don't work and short nails do?? Anyone else got any experiences of this?

PS No idea about screen prints, sorry.

Edit: OK, got Mrs MBS to show me and because her nails are long she is trying to use the nail in isolation and it doesn't work. My nails are much shorter so even when I'm trying to use just my nail it's actually the finger tip that is working the screen. Just tried with an old style stylus with hard end (ooerr) and nothing. it's the finger tip that works, in conclusion.

It's a capacitive screen, not resistive. It requires a pretty big contact area to work. That's why capacitive stylus, unlike a resistive one, has a soft conductive tip and a conductive body.
On my Desire a nail works only if I use it's flat(ish) surface, not the edge.

Yes, but on pre-ICS ROMs you need root for it (unless there is a non root app now).

    On ICS its power+vol-

No need to be, the static in your finger could simply be jumping the shorter gap to the screen, whereas my MDA Vario will work with anythng, such as a ball-point pen.
But if you place a finger nail sideways on the thread page turner on this site so that the flesh is all either to the left or right, does it activate the adjacent link instead?

I notice it can be unresponsive to the home button

but in my case its not because of the gorilla glass (as concluded above) because the phone actually vibrates (responds) to the slightest/lightest touch

so its software issue in my case

i dont have trouble going to next page but i do tend to have it well zzzooooOOOOMMMMEEEDD
