    Everything lol!

I take tea, coffee and sugar in small plastic tubs, washing up liquid, cloths, dishtowels, towels, toilet rolls.

Also depends on whether you are going to be eating out much but we usually have a few nights of eating in the van to save cash so I usually prepare stuff beforehand and freeze it, like a lasagne and a curry and just take it out the freezer before we leave to go our holidays.

To save room in the car I usually go to the nearest supermarket when I arrive and get the rest of the essentials xx

Also a decent knife for preparing food, cutting bread etc. and some clothes pegs. I also take a small tub of essentials like margarine/butter and cooking oil and don't forget salt, pepper, ketchup & the like.
  • I usually take a bottle of anti-bacterial cleaner too, sometimes they aren't the cleanest.

I know it's not camping, so knock out everything not related to camping and take the rest.

We were the same when we went self-catering. Also pint of milk, small loaf of bread, butter (for toast on your first morning) which goes into the cool bag with a frozen homemade cottage pie, bolognese sauce and sometimes I make homemade soup and take it frozen - buy some nice crusty bread to have with it! If you have room take little treats for yourself/kids which you can buy between now and October and hide them ;) ie multi pack crisps, biscuits, choccy bars. Just spreads the cost a little bit

If not provided don't forget the bed linen, tea towels, towels.

    Have a good holiday

PS If you intend making meals to take with you freeze them in foil containers - less washing up

This is what we do too. We always bring stuff to take out on picnics (lunchboxes/flask etc)

I always find not just for a money saving point of view, but the food places on some of these sites horrible and expensive, it makes you inclined to cook yourself. I always take a couple of travel board games for the evening.

some great ideas thanks. will get started on a list. we struggle for room in the car so think ill only take essentials then go to a tesco or something near there to get food. i think we will only need breakfasts and something for a pack up for lunch as we eat out in evenings or it doesnt feel much like a holiday to me if i have to cook lol

Vodka, to blot out the fact that I couldn't afford a decent holiday!
