I treat Student Loans as a higher marginal rate of tax. Given that over any timescale I am likely to be interested in, I'm not going to pay it off, it's essentially a tax.

Well really! According to the poll headings, I'm a Moneybags - merely because the house I've lived in since the 60s is now worth approximately £400,000 (mortgage paid off). However, the fact that I'm scratching around for a meagre pension so that I can still eat, gives a bit of a lie to that.

Agreed, but having a poll of "current cash at hand or cash equivalents" would only be open to people who manage their affairs with Excel, Money etc. and keep it up-to-date. Wait! Maybe we all do that?

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
  • im probably impoverished :(

about 10k cash and about 10k debt. So if i sold a bunch of my stuff i would be in profit but i kind of like my stuff (thats why i bought it in the first place).

Certainly do - couldn't manage half as effectively without Quicken software!

Interesting question. Didn't occur to me not to as I can't define what's his or mine. Whoever survives the other will end up with it all anyway (unless we choose before hand to arrange things differently) so I'm not sure even halving it makes sense for this question. My worth *is* his worth and vise versa. Which one of us goes out to earn it is irrelevant. It's all 'ours'.
