Currys/PC World "Cash for Goals" promotion. Is it a scam?

Options
For the Euros, Currys/PCWorld offered to pay £10 for every England goal scored if you bought a TV or laptop over £500. I bought a laptop and registered for the promotion.

So that's £50 they owe us all. I received an email from them on August 1st saying: "Thank you for entering Currys and PC World Cash for Goals. Your claim has been successful, however we have experienced a delay in despatching the cheques and you should receive it week commencing 6th August. We apologise for the delay and any inconvenience caused"

Is this a scam by Currys? Is anyone else still waiting for their cheque? Has anyone actually received a cheque yet? I have emailed Currys today and am awaiting a response.

Plenty of people got them last time round. It's probably just been delayed in the post or something.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • Well perhaps they'll pay me for the lost interest I could've had investing the money?
  • They have all these hundredsa of £50's and gain interest from it the longer they delay paying it out. They have even breached their own Terms and Conditions for the promotion.

The cost of posting the cheque would be more than any interest on £50 nowadays!!

At 3%, you would get approx 2.8p/week in interest. The OP asking for this is being (as said above) utterly ridiculous, the same as his question "Is this a scam by Currys?".
  • Say what you like, but until I receive my cheque I have no reason to beleive they are acting honorably. I have emailed them and had no response. So far they have not demonstrated to me that they are "reputable".

You really typed this and clicked send ? My word.
I suppose if you completely ignore the fact they have a large high-street presence and have been going for over 100 years, then yes they could be considered not to be 'reputable' or acting without honour.
However if you actually look at it in a rational way, then clearly something has slightly delayed the promotional cheques being sent out and you are being a massive drama queen.

Yeah, but what if a child needed the money for a life-saving operation? You would all not be so quick to jump on the OP and call them unreasonable then would you, eh?
