Drive Assist

Hi all Im hoping someone can help. I've been in an accident and my claim was passed on to Drive Assist who wanted to give me a credit hire replacement vehicle and assess the damage to my own vehicle. Initially put off by the appalling attitude of the person I spoke to I agreed at 1st but have since cancelled all dealings with them after hearing the horror story's about them. I was informed by the woman on the phone when I cancelled that if I dont use them I will have to pay the excess on my policy even though its 100% not my fault ( Police, independant witnesses). Is this correct? and if so how is it right Im feeling bullied into using them?
Many Thanks

if you are sure it's the other side 100% and can prove it then contact the other insurers. Use ASKMID to find out which one if needs be.
If the other driver admits fault they will fall over themselves to provide a no strings courtesy car and repair yours. Cheaper than Drive Assist etc.
Also you won't have to pay an excess and can cancel your own insurer claim so keeping your policy ncd etc...0 -
Hi many thanks for your reply. He pulled out in front of me from a side junction, the police are taking action against him and I have an independant witness although the police would not pass on his details to me without his permission although they will be in the police report. Is it just a case of ringing up his insurance company? Hope that makes sense I'm just all over the place at the min and feel like my own insurer doesn't want to know.

They are just bullying you and trying to scare you into using them. Do as oscarward said, you'll probably get far better service too!0

Thanks, I have obtained his Policy number and Broker off askmid. Is there a guide online or is it just a case of ringing them up? Its the first time Ive dealt with a claim and Im apalled at how my own insurer couldn't care less and has fobbed me off.0

Ring and ask if they have an innocent third party claim department. If so they should help.
If not, then maybe you need a claim handler to sort this.0 -
Deal through your own insurer, they will sort everything out for you.
JamesI work in the insurance industry as a Motor Claims Adviser and will try and help wherever I can.0 -
When you have a claim where the third party is clearly liable, then this is often not the best way forward (as the OP has found out, hence this thread!)
As Quentin has said I feel I'm being bullied into using a company I have no faith in from the outset so dont feel this to be the best course action. Can anyone reccomend a good Claims Management company I can use should it come to it?

It appears I cant go to the other party's insurance co as its in the small print that I have to have my own Insurance co's written permission to do so, which I doubt they will give. So its looking like I have no rights as a innocent party but to use a company with an appalling track record.0
