  • I have an English springer spaniel that is bonkers. He's as had over 6 homes in his short 2 years which as made him unsettled. He's very jumpy when amongst strangers but great with us. We've had him 6 months now as we were failed fosterers we feel in love. He's doing well training but it will be sometime before we can allow him off lead xx

    Hi,

Both of our springers have a good amount of walks 4-5 miles a day in the week and longer at the weekends, and are fed arden grange.
The children were heavily involved with there training as puppies, so much so that our eldest dd (13) has taught our female to collect all of the dirty socks from upstairs and they will both play hid and seek in a field !
Both of our dogs have always responded to the childrens commands.
If my friends little one had gone upto Sid, I think it would be a different matter. As Sid went for a fuss and even sat down as they have been taught and the lad hadn't touched him before he went crazy, that's what worries me.
I have tried today to have him around with the muzzle on but my youngest is backing off from him and is very tense, I'm sure her reaction will only make Sid tense. For now I think it's best to leave them apart, dd is only 6 and doesn't understand what's going on.

Sadly I really don't think we will be able to keep him regardless of his health checks, the trust is gone and it's not fair on any of us :(

On the up side we have a friend who knows of someone who has a farm, and is willing to take him if he is deemed as healthy. They will keep him as a working dog, but they have no children :)

    Thanks you all once again

    Louise

    Just to update you all,

Sid was diagnosed with " Rage" and was PTS this morning. Very upsetting but the right thing to do.

Thank you for all your help.

    Louise

Really sorry to see those news... big hugs to you and RIP little one :(

Is your vet a neurologist? How did he diagnosed the rage?

    :(

Really sorry Louise - it's such a hard thing to do - but you have done the best, most loving thing that you could do. You've behaved responsibly towards your dog and towards other people.

Had you put her into Rescue, she could have snapped/bitten someone else - or maybe even just acted a tad aggressively - and then she'd have been returned to Rescue, time after time - or sold on - and maybe used as a "tease" for fighting dogs.

    By taking the action that you have, you KNOW that she is safe- no harm can come to her - and she can do no harm to others. {{hugs}}
  • Ohhhh Louise so sorry to hear this - I had a funny feeling when you talked about his eyes changing in your first post.

Not at all his fault and sadly no cure as yet.

    RIP Sid xx

Very sorry to hear about your poor dog, OP.

None of this was his fault, but you did the right thing.

    Hope you're ok.
