Queuing for atm outside banks

Dont know if this is just me but ive seen the following happen alot lately.

You see a bank and it has an atm or 2 outside, and a few more inside. The queue for the atm outside is 4-5 deep, yet the atm's in the bank are empty, yet people never seem bothered to walk inside and use them. Why?

There is one in particular where i live. Barclays bank with massive glass windows so you can see the atm's inside. Ive seen the queue outside be 5-6 people yet inside there are 4 atm's easily visible with no one waiting. I go in and ive got my money while people are stilll queing outside.

Never understood it myself :D

Personally I prefer to get my money at the counter, next preference is the inside ATM's and as a last resort an outside ATM.
  • I always try and use an ATM inside the bank, you know that they haven't been tampered with or have any dodgy pin logger on them.

You'll find those that stay outside probably do not bank with that company. Illogical, I know - but that was te response I got when the ATM outside ran out of money.

It's less likely as there is more risk in fitting them inside, but they have been known to fit them inside too

They're all shoulder surfing each other . . . it's one of our few growth industries.

I prefer to use the counter service first, the atms inside a bank/building second and those in the street last for security reasons. That said I get quite irritated if I go to the counter and find myself subject to extraneous marketing by my bank asking be if I want a credit card etc.

Same happened to me, but due to bad planning by the bank, queuing for the 2 ATMs outside can prevent you from getting into or out of the bank!

I managed to get in eventually, to find 3 unused machines inside. I like Barclays ATMs as they give an assortment of cash. For example, if I ask for £100 from a HSBC ATM, I usually get 5 £20 notes. If I do the same with a Barclays ATM, I get 2x£5, 3x£10 & 3x£20. Much better!

Never used the counter however, the ATMs tend not to try and sell me other products.

Thats the reason why i use atms and not the counter. Ive never once been able to go in for what i want, got it and left without trying to get sold something i dont need.
