Speeding Ticket - Help

Comments

  • I suspect I won't use that road again. Will find alternate routes.

I admit doing what my gps sat nav says my car should be doing at 35 which is 30.

I also do not believe that no one what so ever does not creep over the limit by even 1mph which is also breaking the limit. I find that very hard to believe at all.

The speed limit is the law then why allow cars to break it, why not use gps trackers to ensure all limits are kept. Why not have more fixed average speed cameras. Why build fast cars? Why not just force people to only use public transport? Why do we do anything? What's the point?

I completely agree that probably everyone breaks the speed limit, even if only by 1mph. I know I have. But when I got caught, I accepted the fact, did the speed awareness course that was offered and did learn from that, it wasn't at all what I was expecting. I'm now more aware of what is going on, though far from perfect!

What do you mean, why allow cars to break it?

    They don't hence your ticket.
  • They do allow cars to break the speed limit. Otherwise why would the have speed cameras, speed traps? When I mean allow I mean build cars that are capable of breaking the law.

I'm not having a go at the police I like the police I think they're great. Just peed off about this if I'm honest. I don't believe to be in the wrong bit clearly another person believes me to be and I will be punished for it. Just wish they didn't have to hide to catch people.

Maybe we as a country should invest in a new black box for all cars which will penalise people as soon as they go over the limit this will be more accurate and wil prevent ALL speeding everywhere. Why waste time with these speed cameras and mobile speed traps and CCTV vans etc when we could invest in stopping it altogether.

Why don't you just stick to the speed limit?

I think that you can go a small amount over ie 2-3 mph and it not register, due to the fact that as you have pointed out, speed dials are not regularly calibrated and there will be some discrepancy between them.

Cars cannot be limited to the speed limit. In your case it wouldn't have helped as the national limit is 70mph and you were in a 30 zone. If you went abroad in your vehicle and the speed limit was different ie higher than your car was capable of, you could cause an accident.

Besides which, cars and their speed were around long before speed limits were enforced.

45 in a 30 is a fair difference and I think unfortunately too high to be offered a speed awareness course.

To clarify, are you getting done for speeding based on his estimate that you were going too quickly or was there an actual laser/radar gun used to measure your speed?

You think they should build cars that can't travel faster than, say, 20mph, which is the limit in a lot of residential areas now? That would be pretty annoying on the motorway, don't you think?
