Speeding Ticket - Help

Hi all,
This afternoon on my way back from a day out with my partner, child and dogs. I took a diversion to avoid some traffic and went a way which I know well.
There is a a 30mph road that then turns into a 60mph and before the transition there are some bushes on the left and a dead end road with houses alongside the road.
We use the road fairly regularly and occasionally we've heard of speed traps in the alongside road. And today I got a ticket from one, the officer was hiding in the bush and walked on into the road to pull me over, he has given me a ticket for doing 45mph I'm a 30mph I was too angry and tired to argue it so politely took it and got home.
Now I don't recall going that fast, how do I know that it was even me that he recorded doing that speed as I was unaware that there was a speed trap in place. The police car was also undercover.
I've never had points, tickets or any run ins with police and am very upset and frustrated. I don't speed with the family in the car but don't know what to do.
I am really angry about it mainly myself of I had gone the normal route I would of just got stuck in traffic and an average speed check and would of missed this but I didn't.
Is there any way to fight it?
Matt

So what speed were you doing? Now I don't recall going that fast
Normal form is to take the points, pay the fine and avoid [STRIKE]getting caught[/STRIKE] doing it again.0 -
you've kind of closed down any opportunity to argue the toss by accepting the fixed penalty notice i think. the time to argue was when you got pulld over.
in my experience, while accidents happen, you need to 'look' like you are speeding before the officer will focus the lazer on your vehicle and get confirmation of the offence. these devices are military-grade in their accuracy so it is extremely likely that you were in fact doing 45 in a 30.
sorry.0 -
I would say 35 max.
Taking the fine and points is admitting guilt which I don't believe i am.
It's my word against his really.
I like the police but I think this is a very wrong way to collect money.0 -

I know from tv that argue in fact aggregates the officer and could make it worse. I don't believe an estate car to look as a speeding type of car and I had only literally come off a road about. I slowed down as I saw someone pop out from the bush and when I saw the uniform I was rather angry.
Very upset and angry almost feel my blood boiling. Don't have any money anyway let alone to pay for this! What's the bloody point in cars which exceeds limits. There should be one limit and all cars only do that! Just stupid!0 -

So you admit that you were exceeding the speed limit by an estimated 5MPH/15% and breaking the law and still think that the Police were wrong for stopping you and giving you a ticket?
If you don't want to pay, its really simple...keep the needle on the big dial in front of you pointing at a number lower than the number on the big round sign.
Really?I don't believe an estate car to look as a speeding type of car
The Police use estate cars as tactical pursuit vehicles so they are definitely a speeding type of car.
What has the type of car got to do with anything? Is your car capable of exceeding the speed limit? Yes. Therefore it is a car that can be used for speeding.Very upset and angry almost feel my blood boiling. Don't have any money anyway let alone to pay for this!
There is only one person to blame for this...YOU. You were in control of the vehicle. You were responsible for making sure you didn't exceed the speed limit.0 -
If you were tired, maybe you were going quicker than you thought. By your own admission, you were doing more than 30, so I think the best thing you can do is put it down to experience and have a better awareness of your speed.
I guess you could to court, you could ensure the speed camera they were using was properly checked and calibrated, but if you were speeding, you are unlikely to get away with it.0 -

You could refuse the ticket and take it to court.
However it would be foolish as you have no defence as you've already admitted to speeding.0 -
My dials are not 100% accurate no ones are! My gps sat nav will say 30 whilst my car is on 34/35.
They use them as wagons to carry goods like dogs weapons etc. yes they are pursuit cars but they wouldn't send one after a fast car they'd use the fast saloons. You say if they assume your speeding by the type of car/driver etc how could he have seen 1/2 a mile out they were obviously measuring every car!
I like the police if I was doing something wrong then fine but just think this as money gathering excersice. It's not even a hotspot for crashes or anything just ridiculous in my eyes but fine if that's how it works.0 -

They use estates as pursuit vehicles, well capable of speeds in excess of 150 mph.
You have done something wrong, you've already admitted to speeding.0 -
It isn't a money gathering exercise. The limit is 30 for a reason. The busy, residential road we live on is a 30 limit, lots of elderly people crossing the road, young families with kids, side roads where people turn in & out. What is an acceptable speed to travel on that road? Certainly not some of the speeds people do travel at. You've said yourself that you believe you were breaking the speed limit, we've all done it - either knowingly or by mistake - either go to court and plead not guilty or accept it, learn from it and move on.
I suspect the next time you use that road you will ensure you are within the posted speed limit.0
