BugsyBrowne,
Firstly may I take the opportunity to thank you for all the hard work and effort you have undertaken to "re-educate" those people, like myself, who in your words have been taken in by credit scoring companies.
A few points if I may:
I made the opening post looking for genuine help and advice on a subject that I have limited experience with. However I did find it rather frustrating, but later amusing, with the tone and demeanour of your replies.
Last time I checked this was a forum for advice and support and since reading your replies I have begun to wonder when being patronised also began to be common place here?
I do wonder how people like yourself have the time and motivation to spend their hours cruising this forum and rather than bring sound polite advice (which clearly you must have on some subjects as you are the recipient of many "thanks") try and make themselves feel superior by trying to belittle other forum members when they have a genuine need for help.
Interestingly, you make the mistake of feeling superior to forum members, therefore allowing you to feel confident enough to reply in your (misplaced) arrogantly confident tones.
I'd hazard a guess and say that I'm not the first person to have felt some resentment to your replies with the resentment not aimed at your advice but rather the way in which you deliver it.
Now can I, If I may be so bold, offer you some advice. Next time you see someone take their time to ask a question, post a query or genuinely cry for help may I suggest you take the time to be polite and supportive as most likely that person is probably the type of human being you should inspire to be.
In short, wind your neck in.
I'd just like to thank everyone else who posted replies to my question, the advice has been very useful.
Good Luck to all.0 -
All of you saying you were rejected because Halifax wont make any money off you because you pay in full are deluded. I guess it makes the rejection easier to swallow.
I like most pay in full - infact ANYONE who gets a Clarity knows you pay it off in full.
So by your logic no-one would ever be accepted.
The simply reason is the plainest and that something in your credit history isn't satisfactory to the Halifax Clarity's high standard.
Please believe that it is really this simple.
Lenders make money off every single transaction you make.0 -
It would be exceedingly helpful if the bank (Halifax, in this case) would just spit it out. It seems that many of their rejected applicants are genuinely confused as to the reason why."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I support the comments of GRT about polite posting. As a newbie to posting, I was surprised that an innocent comment I made produced such sarcasm and unkindness.
I repeat that I was turned down having never missed a payment for 30-40 years, having paid down my mortgage, having no other debts and no legal judgments against me. I tried Experian for free as suggested on this MSE website last year. I also applied for the card at the suggestion of MSE, even though it was not essential.
I am not particulary bothered by the non-acceptance and don't envision ever needing a loan etc in the future.
it would be helpful if the MSE team could address this issue for general interest.0 -

It's not about polite postings it's about to many people joining the forum and not listening to one bit of advice from members given to them.0 -
With respect Bugsy, your advice is to look and you will see but both of the refused applicants on here have looked and they still can't see."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

With respect Bugsy, your advice is to look and you will see but both of the refused applicants on here have looked and they still can't see.
You mean they're choosing not to see - or conviniently leaving out crucial details.
This OPs case is simple and straight-forward: 1) he doesn't have a steady UK address.
2) Therefore definetely is not on the electoral role.
This is the simple reason.
Posters come on here saying they've been declined despite having credit scores of x to the nth power and but fail to spot the simple details. You can see why this would frustrate some people?0 -
It doesn't compute to me because I don't see the point of lying on a forum where nobody knows you."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
