Halifax Clarity Card Rejection

Hi All,

I'm seeking opinions/advice.

I have just had a online credit card application rejected for a Halifax clarity card.

Current Position:
£36,000 Gross salary,
Full Time employment with the same employer for 1.4 years.
999 credit score on credit expert. With "6 positive factors" influenceing my credit score.
No debt,
Use Credit cards only to gain the buyer protection and pay off in full immediately.
Live overseas and use parents address (listed on my credit file as only historic occupancy for 15years and 4 months duration) for correspondence.

Past history:
I have 6 accounts on my credit file, one is a current account.
4 are settled accounts.
1 is active but has no outstanding debt.
I have had missed payments 5 years ago and arrangement to pay a overdraft which was settled nearly four years ago.

I get credit card companies bending over at present for my custom, so I can't really understand why I have been rejected. I live overseas and will be on leave in two weeks and wanted to pick up this specialist card when I was home. Would they have rejected my application because of my IP address? (Mozambique)

Any Ideas?

Tom

None but my DH had the same recently, no idea why. I applied for current account no probs. Plan on using for 6 months and then will apply for credit card myself as so useful overseas.

999 credit score and you got rejected no way are you sure it defiantly didn't say approved?

Next you'll be telling me you've paid for this service!

    Bugsy,

Nope it said blah blah blah rejected blah blah blah.

Yes I do pay for the credit file information, and I realise many will quaff at this but as I stated in my opening post I had credit file problems a number of years ago, and using my credit report and wisely applying and using the correct cards built my credit rating back up.

Well you havent built it up very well as you've failed Halifax's credit scoring.
Missed payments & arrangement to pay will still be seen by lenders therefor seen you as a high risk hence application decline,

That doesn't apply to my DH. No missed payments, no arrangements. All CCs paid off in full and on time.

If they've got any sort of clue on this, it's reason enough to decline you.

If you're making lots of applications then Halifax may have been put off by this.

If, as I suspect, you mean you receive a lot of speculative non-guaranteed offers, otherwise known as 'mailshots', through the post then they mean nothing until they've credit scored and accepted you.

    Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

    Ack. over the mail shots.

This was the first application I had made in one year.

My main question remains unanswered.... do credit card companies track IP addresses used during the online application. I am in Mozambique and often get paypal, my debit and soul credit card, and other things "blocked" for fraud reasons?
  • I think you just answered your own question there!

No you we're rejected because you have a poor credit score nothing to do with an ip address.
