I got a new kitchen for under £1,000 from Ikea, including dishwasher and built in fridge. Also custom worktops and sink, and extractor hood. But I got this in the sale so there was a 25% discount and my brother fitted it for me. Price was just for fixtures and fittings not electrical, gas and plasterer costs, that was another £1,000. But absolute excellent quality, two years down the line and the kitchen is still as good as when installed (apart from the dishwasher but that's another argument with whirlpool). I think thought that you need twice your budget to get anything decent.

Do you need to change the carcasses OP? Is it just the doors that are falling apart?

If some/all of the carcasses are ok then just look at replacing what needs to be replaced! You'll save a fortune just changing the doors

Out of interest do IKEA kitchens allow for putting non IKEA white units in? Or are they all slightly different so you have to get them from there?

I want a new kitchen as although our was new when we bought our house a year and a half ago it is obviously poor quality as it is already falling a part. It's also just not designed for someone (like me) who spends a great deal of time in there. We only have about £1000 for the units, worktops and plumbing/sink. We want a country style with an oak (oak effect? This is my first kitchen purchse so I have no idea!) countertop and white doors. I'm going to buy a range cooker too but I have money put away for that. Our whole downstairs is one room, so Im doing the flooring seperately from the kitchen budget. Thinking bout the Tundra laminate from ikea. I cant afford any extra miney to have it fitted but we know various people who have fitted kitchens in their own homes who can help. Our kitchen is literally about 4 sq m. Is it possible to do it on such a small budget?
Yes it is for cabs etc but as others have said don't expect it to last a lifetime. Assuming the range is outwith the budget of £1k and so is fitting then you'll do fine with an Ikea kitchen but make sure you've someone who knows how to fit it. They don't have a service gap at the back!. Roughly how many wall and floor units are we talking about and how long is the worktop run? Don't put laminate down in a kitchen even if it says "suitable for". Use vinyl sheet flooring if you are tight obn budget.

    Cheers

Would I have to buy a new oven/dishwasher/fridge?

I walk around IKEA and think, that lamp is nice, only 10 pounds too, but then have to buy their bulbs. Same with a lampshade I bought a while back, and the bedding...

We put Wickes kitchens in a couple of houses we own and they are still going strong - not the best of tenants. The quality is fine - the putting together is the main thing with any sort of flat pack.
My oh does the assembling - Glue & Screw is the secret. You don't need much glue, but it makes all the difference.

Is Wickes a taboo subject then re kitchens. I was lucky & won one from them - so long as they are properly put together they are sound. I don't know, but they are worth checking the prices against Ikea - with that size of kitchen you could hit lucky & get an ex display one.
Our Wickes kitchen was fitted 4 years ago & it's still as good as the day it was fitted. It wasn't cheap though & we did have it fitted by proper kitchen fitters. I love the gloss finish (despite fingerprints showing when sunshines on it). Would happily recommend Wickes.

Oh sorry you meant white goods rather than units. Me being thick. Yes but always make sure you check your measurements.
