What sort of size was the kitchen you were fitting and how did you find the installation? I must admit I've had a lot of Ikea furniture (which I've painted or adapted to suit) and its held up great for a long time, so was wondering if the kitchens are the same.
9 foot by 8 foot so a small area. BIL seemed happy with the quality of the stuff and I've had nothing fall off or blow up over the last two years.
Everything came from IKEA

Good to know. We aren't after the appliances but as long as the cupboards are ok really. Think we will get wood worktops as I haave similar 'stone effect' ones now that don't suit our house and are looking a but worse for ware.happily married since

Changing the layout of a kitchen is what costs you the most money particularly if you have to relocate plumbing, electrics and gas.
Electrics in the kitchen and gas must be done by a qualified person by law.
If you can leave everything in place but change the size of the units so they fit better then you will save yourself a lot of money.
This is likely what the owner before you did which is why the kitchen is a bad design.
Ikea do have a range of unit sizes but not as many as a high end kitchen.
Personally I would save up more money then do the kitchen. This is so you can get the tiles you like. In regards to worktops they are either cheap or expensive there seems to be no in between.
You can manage perfectly well if you don't have children in a kitchen that is not top-notch i.e. with units that are falling apart as long as the cooker is safe and there are no leaks.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I'm leaving the sink, washer and cooker in place as they don't interfere with the layout. It's this weird breakfast bar/cupboard area that juts into my living room and some random floating cabinets (they're sort of on stilts on top of the counters) and basically all the cupboards/counters I don't like.happily married since

What about a second hand kitchen? there are sometimes really nice kitchens on ebay.0

Is Wickes a taboo subject then re kitchens. I was lucky & won one from them - so long as they are properly put together they are sound. I don't know, but they are worth checking the prices against Ikea - with that size of kitchen you could hit lucky & get an ex display one.0

I did actually have a look at wickes website. Seems fair price wise. Some stuff has only 2 stars but when you read the review it's clear that the buyer hasn't checked the measurements!
How do you find yours?
Edit: Wickes' units are actually cheaper like-for-like than ikea's, but not sure whether the quality is the same? I would imagine it's very similar.happily married since
