Don't forget those who'll be MF in 2 years have been at this for a while, and OP's of thousands are the exception. When my mortgages are paid off in 4 years I'll have had a mortgage for 34 years.
Eek. Never thought of it like that before :eek::eek::eek::eek:.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Thank you - that makes me feel a lot better, gally. If I'd had a mortgage for 34 years, I'd have had to have taken it out when I was only 9! :rotfl:
Hope it makes you feel better too, numpty.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Hi there and welcome!
This does get addictive btw...! :rotfl:
Definitely another here who isnt paying off thousands every week nor likely to be MF in a couple of years!!
Its just about diverting extra money somewhere it is making good use rather than on stuff that isnt "needed" for me ... *note sometimes takeaways or a good date night out are "needed"*
SOA is a great place to start thinking about possible savings!0 -
Achievements today:
1. Survived getting called for work! Actually I only get paid when I work so I should want to go but hey I'm only human!
2. Decided to open another savings account. Online application done, just waiting to hear. Will commit to saving £100/mth in that account. This was over an ISA. Did loads of reading and think at the moment my savings need to be fluid.
3. Started a very basic spreadsheet. As I really don't have much experience with spreadsheets, I will say no more than that.
4. Drinking cider instead of going swimming - personal choice but hope some of you understand.
5. Made a decision and am cooking dinner.

I quite understand. You don't want to rush these things. I am about to have a bath instead of going on the wiifit. Having now heard a boxer who won gold saying he had never boxed till 4 years ago, and a rower saying the same, I need peace and tranquility to plan my sporting future
. Though to be fair, I am already a world record and Olympic record holder

Thank you. If I think about it my first mortgage was 21yrs ago. My first house was worth £52,000. My Nan lent me my deposit and then never wanted it back. Now today I am on house no.5 either as a sole or joint mortgage holder & husband no.2 :rotfl:Our house is worth approx £300k and think we should be clear in 8yrs time, allowing for interest rate changes. So all in all not bad. You do need to take a breath when you start this. I've been addicted for months but now I've started this diary, it gets worse. Who knew?:D0

Hi Numpty, 8 yrs to clear your mortgage is a great goal..
I'm another in it for the long haul, had a mortgage for 10yrs, got another 25 to go (or so they think).. OH is only on board as much as he doesn't have to get involved or find an extra money to put toward the mortgage..
Good luck on your journey and the swimming..Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -
Hello,
I had my first mortgage at the age of 18 and apart from 18 months mf before buying the current house, have always been paying every month. I am 51 now and will be mf in just over a year, so that is 31 years! Dread to think how much of my hard earned money has gone to the banks in interest payments. Stick with it numpty and don't be dispirited.
SquirrelPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Just had to add my two pennyworth as this is interesting! I started my mortgage in 1988 so have had it for 24 years. However I sold with negative equity and had to take out a loan from my parents when I moved in 1994 so I suppose in real terms it didn't start until then. If I think that I have had it for 18 years it doesn't seem so bad after all. I aim to clear it in about 6 years now.0

PS Welcome Numpty. I don't post often - a bit of a lurker but will follow your diary Good luck.:hello:0
