Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh poor girl..... well done to her, pity one pup did not make it0 -
Have you considered an Elkhound?
They are a lovely size and temperment and can get along with cats well when brough up around them.
i however adore my rescue dog! I am sorry you have had some bad experiences, you are right though, alot of dogs are put in rescue for temperment reasons where the owner has failed to train properly.
Goodluck with your puppy!Weightloss: 18lbs/28lbs (Start weight: 11st, Current 9st 10)

Someone who has cats at home will not risk bringing a rescue dog in and takin a chance, I would not for sure.
Jo - sent you and email as PM is not working for me.. me thinks
Utter tosh (couldn't give a stuff about what the OP goes for in the end but stop spreading misinformation about rescue dogs - they get a hard enough deal as it is).
2 rescue dogs (and one's an ex-racing greyhound), one rescue cat... cat's distinctly the boss - the two dogs move out of the way when she hisses at them to give up the sofa for her.
Took time, took careful management and introductions, took probably a few paw swipes to a nose that got too near for comfort - but if the personalities concerned are right (cat thinking she's Rambo, cat-tested dogs) it's perfectly doable.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

Agree about rescue dogs, I got mine 3.5yrs ago & had my cat who was 11 at the time & have had no problems whatsoever other than a day of the cat sulking & the odd hiss. I wouldn't have done it if i'd thought my cat was at any risk at all & she also had plenty of places to escape to that the dog couldn't access & no baggage lol0 -
I have no useful advice as I haven't heard of Eurasiers and I'm a bull terrier gal all the way.
I'm just lurking in anticipation of the posts where your new puppy is testing its teeth out, and I can start to get my own back. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I've had a staffie eat a sofa before. And a sink plunger (which I still have and use over ten years on, still with the teeth marks in the handle).
Also had a Dobie (briefly) that I had been assured by one person (via the ex) was wonderful with cats. Upon contacting them on Monday morning to say that he had gone for the cat repeatedly in a rugby-tackle-the-creature-and-find-bits-of-cat-tail-fur-between-its-teeth-where-it-nearly-got-her manner, was told 'oh, no, that's the one we nearly lost on the first day because he spotted a cat in a carrier and went for it'. 'Why did you rehome him to my [then]OH then?' 'Oh, she must have forgotten he was the naughty doggie' He went straight back there. He was not at all suitable for the family or the house and they should never have rehomed him here - and my ex should never have assumed 'well, you just tell them to leave the cat alone, don't you, or the cat sorts them out with a claw to the nose'.
And the Beagle - well, he murdered a lot of things. Shoes and toys mostly. But he wasn't a rescue and didn't murder the cats, the rabbit or the tortoise as he'd grown up with them from a puppy.
So, Elsien, I'm sure any mutt here will be giving the idiot ninja cat a run for his money in destruction terms.
(That's the cat with four separate scratching places/posts/boards that still chooses the bottom and top step of the stairs and two of the kitchen table legs above all else, even when they are spiked with catnip, by the way. I suspect the table will be doomed if a dog were to join the throng)
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Why not wait until November and take a trip to Discover Dogs- see all of the breeds and speak to owners of the breeds to gauge what they are really like (plus you'll meet loads of cute dogs
)

Thanks, this isn't a spur of the moment thing, so that's not too long away. I want the right dog at the right time, what or whenever that is.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
