Considering getting a dog...Eurasier questions

The Eurasier is one of the breeds I researched 4 years ago when we lost our old Lab. I think they look gorgeous :happyhear and they seem to combine the slightly wolfy look with a biddable nature.
A few things did put me off though. They are such a new breed to the UK that there are very few breeders, the litters aren't large and they attract a premium price. It must be difficult to tell whether a breeder is genuinely trying to establish a good line and UK presence, or if they are in it for the big bucks.
New dogs are being imported for breeding but the gene pool must be quite small at the moment.
The Eurasier Society and The Eurasier Club seem to be two organisations that feature totally different breeders and it makes me feel that there might be some tension within the breeding community!
In the US they recommend breeding stock is hip-scored and eye-tested but there are no such requirements in the UK so there is no official data on possible health problems.
Thank you.
So maybe I'd be better considering going to the source?

I would be really careful going for a "wolfdog" in the UK, have heard many stories of breeders going off on their own down some not so savoury routes etc. - seems it started with good intentions and no one could agree on breed standards, ethics within the breeding practices, etc. Even several "wolfdog" owners have said they regret going to the breeder they used and so on. Not tarring them all with the same brush but if you're going down the puppy route, you may as well do it properly so I would definately suggest doing your homework on UK breeders of this kind of time.0

Thanks, but I think they are something I would love to have, but wouldn't be suitable.
I do wonder if it is just a UK thing to have the sort of breeder issues a couple of you have described?
If so, I really would be quite happy to travel further afield. My German is rusty and a little archaic, but OK, my French is better but still under utilised. And public transport holds no fears for me
I'm not looking to become a breeder myself, in any case, btw. I would just want a healthy, strong puppy that would be happy here.
And I still haven't decided on a particular breed or three.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I know someone who owns a husky, a eursier AND has cats - and they get on remarkably well!
Jo - I've put out feelers to see if she can help in your quest - although she's a bit busy with the Olympics at the moment!0 -
Jo, catch a train and spend some time with Zara
Bank Holiday coming up... shall I get some decent coffee?0 -
Jojo - here is a link to breeders:-

In order to be on the CD breeders' lists, breeders have to adhere to KC and Breed Council health and breeding rules and regs - you shouldn't find any puppy farmers amongst them!
Good luck in your search.0 -
Here's a lovely, well mainly story for the GSD fans.
