Happy New Year Jazee and I hope it is a good one for you.

Yesterday DH bought a calendar which did not go down that well given we're supposed to be frugal now. Here are the reasons why:
    1. He'd already been told that I had been given a free one from work and had seen it.
    2. He paid full price £6.99 when probably they would be reduced anyway in a couple of days.
    3. The calendar is awful. The photos are not great scenes and there is nowhere roomy enough to write any appointments.

I have hung it behind the free one as a reminder to him of his folly.

Yesterday was a NSD for me. Today, I have been to a village coffee morning. I took £5 cash in my purse and spent £2.50 on tea, cake and a raffle ticket.

OH and I have never joined our financials together despite being together for 26 years. It saves an awful lot of bad feeling and arguments!
    Better is good enough.

I get where you're coming from HB but ours has always gone in one pot with both having allowances and separate savings accounts. The calendar and over overspending of DHs will be coming out of his allowance. His savings account is currently at zero. Guess that's because he's an alcoholic!

I had another NSD yesterday. Hoping for the same today and tomorrow, maybe Monday too.

Still have only spent on one day so far. Will be spending £1.50 tomorrow. Had another look at finances and it's not quite as bad as I first feared but I'll keep that information to myself.

Yesterday DH spent his entire budget for the day £15 on wine.

Brownie points for DH yesterday. He got ten candles reduced from £1.50 to 38p each. As we get through a lot of candles this is a great saving for us.

January has been quite a spendy month in the end. Unexpected trip to elderly relative being the main reason. However, all toiletries and cleaning products etc topped up for the next few months.

Need to sort out renewing broadband deal.

So the year hasn't worked out as anyone planned!  Shortly after the posts above I booked a big family holiday for August.  Fortunately under current rules we can still go, just not so many of us.  So glad that was paid for upfront as DH has now given up work as with his alcoholism and the stresses of the pandemic - he was one of the key workers - something had to give.  He needs to sort out the drinking once and for all and will hopefully be looking for a part time job from about September.

For now, we just have my part time wage coming in but I have budgeted and stretched our current funds to at least the middle of September so I'm hoping to avoid touching our savings.  I will try to capture our progress on this new chapter of our life here.

I don't think DH has fully got his head round being frugal so for now has handed his bank card to me.  Yesterday wine was purchased, but this will be in reducing amounts as guided by the alcohol service.  We also have a new routine in place to make sure he takes his meds.  I spent just over £100 yesterday on dog grooming and petrol.  I also picked up a freebie in the village which will do as an extra birthday present for DH.  The other present I've got for him cost less than £6 as there's nothing either of us really need.

We have £100 credit on Amazon from a gift card so that will come in useful along with a £20 hAlford voucher from getting car insurance.

Today should only be the purchase of wine.
