I have found these links helpfull when searching for Wedding venues DirectGov for England & Wales , and General Registrars in Scotland and Northern Ireland .
I do hope this is helpful it seems to be a question that crops up regularly.
Oh and of course up here in Scotland you can be married just about anywhere by a Humanist celebrant (have I mentioned that before lol)

there is alot of red tape involved in getting married anywhere in scotland you have to pay £600 upfrount a that before the fire officer, transport officer, registrar etc approve it an it's non refundable if they say no! this price is not including the public liabilty insurance and if outside you can't get married somewhere else if it rains as the licence is to a specific grid reference on a map.

Noticed a few people mentioning websites with budget planners. If you have Microsoft Office you can easily do your own planner. Open up excel click on the office button at the top right then on the drop down menu click NEW and templates should be listed click on BUDGETS several will be listed in the next box 1 of which is WEDDING BUDGET it's very simple with a column for estimated cost's & actual costs (if I can do it anyone can) It is so helpful for keeping a track of things, it's too easy for spending to spiral without realising.
I hope this was helpful to someone, and I apologise if my instructions are rubbish. I'd been bugging my oh to do a spreadsheet for me for almost a month (he works in account's) then the other night he said there is probably a template on there do this that & the other and tadah I did it:j

I just wanted to BUMP this as I was looking all over for a budget planner and this really is amazing!
Please note if you are using Office 2007 then it's NEW - BUDGETS - HOME BUDGETS then WEDDING PLANNER is at the bottom :)

  • I've only recently found out that Wedding Insurance will only cover monies paid out SINCE the insurance is taken out! Initial deposits and interim payments will not be covered if insurance is left till later.

The rest is all very helpful.

That isn't the case with all wedding insurance policies. Many will cover you for deposits that you've already paid providing there is no "known risk" (circumstances you're already aware of) at the time you purchase your policy.

As with all insurance policies, it pays to read the policy wording carefully to check exactly what you are (and more importantly, aren't) covered for.
