Perhaps hypnotherapy etc could help you be a bit more calmer should you come across a spider? You can go anywhere you like then!

I'm scared of them too, but I'd still jump at the chance to go on some of the holidays mentioned here!

I've seen some huge ones in my house, they live in the walls on the sunny side. A bit OT but since I had the cavity wall insulation done the numbers dropped considerably.

Sharm el Sheike - too hot for them:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I did see a praying mantis, but a distinct lack of other creepy crawlies.

The Sensatori is lovely, as id the ROBB.

moomin if you did consider sharm i second the reef oasis blue bay and spa (ROBB) lovely hotel 24hr all inc,own beach with pontoon to see the reef and fish, numerous pools, bars. the whole resort was immaculate all the staff were friendly helpful.
no spiders that i seen, i just avoided the camels after seeing a pic of camel spiders:eek:
  • While on the subject of Sharm, Baron Resort is one of the best hotels there but for pure indulgence, have a look at the Royal Savoy. It knocks the socks off all the other hotels mentioned for Sharm :)

I would plump for the Sensatori over the ROBB - specially if you like a sea-view room. But for other reasons too.

Back to the OP, go for a dry hot climate rather than a tropical type climate.

Costa rica has many micro climates within its boundaries, a great volcano which allows lots of naturals spas.
Beaches and rain forests galore plus option of Atlantic or Pacific coast lines and plenty of spider free areas.

  • I've been to the maldives twice and not encountered any, same with thailand etc

I would suggest trying hypnotherapy though with a registered practitioner to overcome the root cause of your phobia so that you can travel more freely

I am a bit spider phobic too. I get huge ones at home. I can't even pick up a bunch of bananas in Tesco without feeling a bit nervous.

I haven't seen any troublesome spiders on my travels, and I have twice ventured into the Borneo rainforest. That said, I did put a hat on and an umbrella up when it rained, because leeches can fall onto your head out of the trees when it rains there (allegedly, I never saw a leech either!), so I looked like a right fool.

Other hot and exotic places where I haven't seen any scary spiders are Cancun, Cambodia (even though they eat them there as a delicacy), Jamaica, Antigua, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. I have heard of one person seeing them in the Maldives and saying that they were very big though.

The one place I have visited where there did seem to be a lot of spiders was Prague.

You can buy spider catching gadgets which have a long pole type handle, so that you can catch them and take them outside without having to get too close to them. If you are really terrified of spiders, maybe you should take one of these with you so that you have protection.
