Its also down to luck- or bad luck! We had 3 months in Oz travelling and I only saw a couple of huge ones. Whereas someone I know went for 2 weeks and saw tons. Saw a LOT more cockroaches there.

My fav place is Hawaii and I have to say its a great place for not having too many bugs. Only seen 1 spider there.

Lots of bugs in Fiji. But then again it was down to accomodation - mainly staying in accomodation with open air bathrooms etc. When we stayed in a hotel I saw none.

    Hi all,

Strange question but I am super terrified of spiders but looking at tropically places for honeymoon (carribbean areas/mexico/other 'idilyc' places) but they all seem to have big spiders!!

Can anyone recommend somewhere we can go like this with minimal spdiers?! i know I should just get over it but I genuinely won't enjpy the holiday if there are spiders around!!!

    Thanks x

Sharm el Sheike - too hot for them:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I did see a praying mantis, but a distinct lack of other creepy crawlies.

The Sensatori is lovely, as id the ROBB.

We went to the Dominican Republic for our 25th, was lovely and no crawlies at all - except the lovely little lizard things on the trees.
If you want to relax and enjoy your own company it ticks all the boxes.

I could tell you a story that a friend related to me about her holiday in Malaysia - but I won't, as it would be cruel.

Have you thought about honeymooning in this country? Or perhaps the South of France, or romantic Paris, or Italy? Not the hottest places, I admit, but beautiful all the same and with a definite lack of naughty arachnids that might actually cause you harm.

I have a phobia that prevents me from taking certain types of holiday. It's not spiders, but I'm not even going to say what it is, as even seeing it written down is enough to tip me over the edge. Suffice it to say that it's a kind of sea/beach creature that shares its name with an unfortunate genital "situation". And rhymes with 'slabs'.

Anyway... MANY congratulations on your forthcoming marriage - I hope you and your OH have a very long, happy and sp*der-free life together! xx

I'm terrified of spiders as well. We've been to Jamaica, Antigua, Providenciales and Mexico and didn't see any spiders. Yet for the past two days I've had them in my lounge.

Just remember folks, just because you didn't see any spiders in these tropical places doesn't mean they didn't come and get you while you were sleeping  :rotfl:

Could be looking near to 40c today how hot do you want? They do have spiders, and scorpions and other creepy crawlies but most people survive the encounter.

thanks everyone, nice to know that not everyone has encountered spiders!! its very spider specific, cockraoches, lizards, snakes etc don't bother me!! very strange!!

read a couple of thing over the past couple of days about spiders in Cyprus, that shocked me!!

I will try not to let my fear put me off booking a lovely holiday but definately going to explore some more european options!!

    I'm just the same!

Seriously though, I do reckon they aren't really interested in people and tend to keep themselves to themselves. I've been to several tropical places and never been bothered.

I was horrified when I saw a pic of some tarantula-like beastie on someone's holiday pics from Cuba on TA! I've been three times and never seen any.

Similarly in Bali, I didn't see any until our guide pointed them out to us in a forest/jungly bit and also at a temple, they were mahoosive - if I'd accidentally stumbled in to one of those it would be 'pants to brown' and a hysterical case of the screaming heebie-jeebies! :rotfl:

I would go back to either of these places in an instant so try not to let the thought of spiders put you off! :)
