MSE News: Yodel boss: No apology for delays but 'deliveries getting better'

DHL, the international delivery company are owned by Deutsche Poste. The completely separate company Yodel (then HDNL) bought the domestic UK arm of DHL a couple of years ago, and rebranded it er, Yodel.
The two are separate companies with no other connection than that.0 -
My Yodel delivery was left outside someone else's gate, actually on the road, about 200 yards along from where I live, in pouring rain and was there for at least 2 hours before they discovered it and kindly lugged it along the road to me! (was a large, heavy parcel).Parcel was very clearly addressed, no attempt made to deliver to my address. I telephoned Yodel to complain, the person I spoke to told me it was 'not his problem' and that I'd have to complain to the company who I bought the item from - which I did! I also used the Yodel online form to raise a complaint about the delivery and the attitude of the call centre person I spoke to - I am still waiting for a reply some 3 months on!!! I actively request companies do not use Yodel to deliver to me as this is not the first, not the second but the third time I have had a bad experience by them.0

One parcel never arrived and I received a refund from the seller. Yodel totally ignored me and now I refuse to use Yodel and advise others to do the same. There is a lot of competition out there, use it. Terry0

I used to work for Yodel as a self-employed courier.
Here are some facts for you.
The depot I worked from didn't know what our Christmas working hours would be, right up to the 21st December.
The depot was closing and so more and more of the regular salaried drivers were leaving and more couriers like myself were being employed, using our own vehicles, and getting paid approx 50p per parcel, with no guarantee of any minimum number of parcels, somedays it was as low as 20, meaning on a round where I would be driving 20 miles, it actually COST me money to work for them.
EVERYTHING is done as cheaply as possible, therefore the service delivered by most of Yodels drivers, and warehouse staff is crap, in my opinion and experience.
I now work for another courier, Hermes, where I get paid (at least) twice as much to deliver the same stuff to the same area, and complaints about Hermes are rare.
I wonder if there's some sort of connection?0 -

Really???? Complaints about Hermes are rare???? :rotfl:
so far I've experienced three 'deliveries' by Hermes -
1) arrived but the package had been slit open and an envelope with vouchers and my husband's birthday card stolen
2) arrived but the contents (which were my then 4 year old son's christmas presents) had been opened and 2 things taken
3) Tesco school uniform from their embroidery service - item got as far as the courier in my town and then suddenly the package containing his uniform for starting big school (he's only just approaching 5) was apparently damaged and returned to Tesco - this was 5 days ago and they haven't even received it back yet!!!!
I sincerely hope you're not the courier for Hermes in Portsmouth........All of my views are my own0 -
Two experiences of Yodel this year, first one they chucked the parcel in the porch, rang the bell and ran off before I could open the door. Thank goodness wasn't breakable!
2nd was delivery from Amazon to a friend for her son's birthday. Tracking said it was 'left in porch' on a certain day - she doesn't have a porch! Sent complaint to Yodel and nothing, called Amazon who apologised profusely and resent parcel next day delivery, free of charge to my own address.
So lesson learnt there, get stuff delivered to my own address! Although one did chuck a parcel over the garden fence, thankfully it was just shoes. Most of the time though I have not been let down.

I ordered an expensive laptop from Pc World and was advised that Yodel would deliver on a requested date. We were at home all day and following the tracking online. In the morning it was at the local delivery depot. Then mid afternoon we noticed that the tracking status had changed to "delivered" and stated that it had been signed for. When we rang Yodel, they at first claimed it had been delivered - but on contacting the driver he admitted it was still in the van. The driver claimed he had "accidently added a signature" because his "PDA was playing up." Thank goodness we were at home and vigilant and able to contact Yodel before the end of his delivery schedule - otherwise it would have been our word against theirs!0

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
How does he know? Did he see it happen? Or has he full camera coverage of his property?
I wish I was there when it happened. I'd have paid extra to see delivery drivers lob their deliveries over a hedge. How was the signature of the recipient obtained?
Well who else could have put the parcel in the garden if not the delivery agent?
The signature actually said "porch" BUT a delivery agent could claim that they had delivered and obtained a signature (any old squiggle would suffice) and how could you prove that a member of your household, or visitor had not signed for it?0 -

and PC World told me a couple of weeks ago that - following my complaint that they had falsely claimed to have delivered my laptop
( which was still in the van although tracking system said it had been delivered) - that they were no longer going to use YODEL Apparently I was not the first to report problems with this company0 -
We have had several delivery problems with Yodel like:
Saying they have left a parcel in the 'blue bin' when they don't even have access to it. The parcel never did materialise.
Saying they attempted delivery when the vehicle has not even been in the street.
I paid for Next day Delivery. It never arrived and I had to go to Rotheram to collect it and be late going on holiday. I actually spoke to the delivery driver and he stated they had no chance of delivery because of two reasons. Firstly, they had recently taken over from DHL and the fleet has been reduced by 50%, along with the drivers. Drivers were being employed who could not even speak English and were used to driving on the right. They had no idea of where they were going. Loads were double of previously (obviously when you reduce the fleet) and it would take them at least 18 hours to deliver what they had on the van.
The Director is talking total rubbish. You need to talk to the stressed out workers, that is if they can can understand you!0
